Homecoming 2005, one of our Brew City Brag members has a Gray/Orange 2002 S3T. Thing only has like 7K on it. As we're leaving the Buell factory, he goes to start it... And nothing. No click, nadda... Well, Court, Erik, and another Buell employee mosey on over to see what's happenin'.      So, yes, Erik isn't afraid to get dirty still  | ||

Seen this a couple of times-- on one of the first Buell rides I went on(1996) out of Salinas Buell,there were a grand total of about 15 Buells. At the lunch stop we were talking suspension and I mentioned mine seemed a bit harsh on the freeway,next thing you know Erik was kneeling down dialing in the rear shock on my bike. At the races at Willow Springs I was walking through the pits when I spotted Erik with greasy hands, elbow deep in a Buell racebike,when asked, he replied that the stinking Triumphs had been faster in practice and he just knew there were a few more HP to be found in this bike.Pretty cool. | ||

Actually that bike did get fixed but it was an elusive problem. Please note who "the other guy" is . . . he holds some Bonneville Land Speed Records on a Buell and is the #1 Top Dog at Buell Customer Service. Take my word for it. . . he's good . . . VERY GOOD. Erik has never lost his zeal for jumping in and working on things. I've an entire collection of pics of him doing this. . . didn't really mean to have a collection, it's just the way he is. We were at the Ferris Buell Blue Groove Northwest event a number of years ago. Erik and I went and I brought along my youngest son. I spent the day working while Ferris and Erik took Bryce riding for the day (that's quite another story . . "Dad, did you know a Buell can do 130MPH?". . . Uh.. let's keep that to ourselves.) When they returned there was a fellow who'd tossed a bike down in BattleTrax and it needed some work. Erik fiddled for a minute thinking it was something small, it turned out to need more. I returned, long after the crowds were gone and he was elbow deep in grease and parts working on this guys bike and blowing off some of the more public events to get this guy's bike fixed. . . he stuck with it until it was as good as new. I've got some photos at home . . it was very cool. | ||

I lost a whole day of riding at the HOG national rally in Chattanooga a couple of years ago. I had a flat Friday night. I was at the Dealership at 6am thinking they would be opening early to take care of riders like me. What was I thinking!! The Saturday that the NATIONAL RALLY is in town is the best time to shoot a video about your dealership!! They came out when I got there and told me not to start the bike because they were filming!! They didn't take my bike in until 10:30! and I didn't get back on the road until after 1PM.......... IT WAS JUST A FLAT TIRE!! THANK YOU THUNDER CREEK H-D The real kick in the pants.....The new CEO from H-D showed up and looked at the line of bikes about 40 deep an said nothing!! not a "Lets get them back on the road" "Whats wrong with your bike?" NOTHING! Its no big deal, It was just the NATIONAL RALLY. I didn't spend a lot of time planning for the trip.  (Message edited by wolfridgerider on March 09, 2007) | ||

Rumor has it that XB engines can be converted to utilize a trap-door tranny setup. Rumor has it. There may be a few hurdles to overcome. It's in the archives someplace. As to Erik working on bikes? He is who he is and is true to himself.  Didn't someone on one of the California or Arizona or New Mexico rides once put a Buell into a creek down in a small ravine and wasn't it Erik who rode the bike out of the water and back to the home base of the event? I could be wrong, but think I'm close to being right. | ||

Many years ago, at one of the first Daytona Battletrax competition, my friend Steff was having a problem with the handling of her Thunderbolt. Erik was there watching the competition so she wandered over to ask his advice. Next thing I knew, there was Erik on all fours crawling all over her bike. Next, he borrowed a helmet and took her bike for a spin. When he got back, he gave her his verdict: she needed new steering bearings. I'll never forget that. I'm 100% confident that if I made a similar complaint to the head of BMW Motarrad regarding my K1200LT, he'd tell me to take the bike to a dealer (if he deigned to acknowledge me at all). | ||

That was a GREAT BattleTrax in that super market parking lot too wasn't it? I still have a couple long sleeve t-shirts from the first BattleTrax. Awesome time . . . | ||

Maybe it wasn't one of the first. It was in the parking lot of that restaurant/micro-brewery down the block from Hooters (the name escapes me now). I took home the trophy in the "Bagger class" that year riding my K1200LT. I still have that highly valued piece of lucite here! | ||

I can't think of many people in any walk of life that are that much of a good Samaritan. It's one thing to offer verbal advice but to get down and dirty and spend time and effort helping people out on what amounts to your day off is more then commendable. Hat's off to you, Mr. Buell | ||

Naw,it was Bobby G rode it out as Erik and a bunch of us pushed it. Erik rode it back to the hotel sans some levers and bits. We were blasting down a twisty bit of road near Laguna--Erik was flogging a Blast near to death when a poor sucker thought he ought to be able to out run/outcorner the Blast. Cooked into corner too fast(he was a newb) and layed on back brake. Went straight off the road,over a barbed wire fence and a bunch of bushes to land in a dry creek bed.Shook up,but unhurt.Unless you can die from embarassment. |
