Holy crap thanks man. That’s a great story with great pics. That pic with all the gear you packed really gives me a great understanding of the stuff I got to pack. But damn it I thought I could pull this off with out saddle bags. Your pics tell me I might not, but I'm going synthetic, screw leather and the price.

I already got a reservation at the Buffalo Chip.

As soon as I get all my gear (tent, sleeping bag, etc...) I plan on hitting the local KOA in Clearwater a couple nights to get a feel for camping using the Dyna and then going further out every couple of weeks just to work out the kinks till Sturgis. Do a couple of self iron but runs in Florida to get a feel, and with the way the weather is always changing around here get better prepared.

Thanks all, great advice from the badweb again and hell I haven’t been here in a long time. Makes me want to get a Buell again, that and I love the Uly.

Glad you enjoyed it. I sure did! If you won't be cooking your own food on a campfire you can probably make it with a decent sized tank bag and no saddle bags. The stove, fuel, pots and pans, and foodstuff take up one saddlebag on their own. I didn't use a tank bag, so there is plenty of room for more. : D

Whatever you do, it will be very satisfying. You might consider taking a short overnight trip in advance of the big journey in order to work out the bugs. : )

To me, camping is when the Holiday Inn doesn't have the pay-per-view movie I want to see.

I find myself strangely intrigued by the notion of camping while motorcycling.

DJKaplan,
You don't actually camp while motorcycling; it's more of an "after-and-before" motorcycling endeavor....

"Strangely intrigued" (as per Djkaplan) may be where I am now on motorcycle camping. I keep mentioning it and get that "OH NO! here we go again look". Until Beck met me she didn't know you could go camping without little things like showers and toilets. She's been educated. My concern is that considering I completely stuff my Tahoe, compared to a few little bags, I just don't know.
Blakes very impressive tale is pushing me closer though, and the picture of his goodies, all laid out, also validated one of my suspicions about Buell people.
Spam has gotten such a bad rap, even despite my vociferous and compelling arguments to it's virtues.
I just knew Buellers liked Spam.

Dfishman, a lot of people here have been looking for higher bars for their Ulys, perhaps you could enlighten us on the dimensions of your "hangars" ?

Fishman,

It seems to me that you pack much too neatly for a chopper man. joker Very cool photos. I dig your sporty chopper too.
