I have many tens of thousands of miles using a Sportster transmission and so I know what they should feel like. My '99 S3T has a consistent catch going into third gear, like it skips a tooth before going into gear. It is a little less noticible if I shift real forceful, but it is still there. Any ideas? I know how to pull the clutch and the transmission if neccesary but of course would like to avoid this. I did change the fluid and adjust the drive chain and that made no difference. Shane |

And while you are checking those out, many people find the pins in the stock shift drum backing out or getting skewed. I think the Baker smooth shift kit has a better one, and I believe Pammy at CycleRama can take the factory unit and clean it up for a reasonable amount as well. (but I am going from memory here, so ask the question in the knowledge vault and let the people that discovered this in the first place give you the right answers)... |

Thanks guys, I should have posted there first. I have been doing a lot of reading in the archives but there is a lot there to digest. Mostly I know that to really diagnose this I will need to pull the p-cover and work my way down to the tranny looking for the problem, cause I know it ain't right. Shane |
