All this talk about BMC employees regularly reading the Badweb has prompted me to point out the obvious.

Since I bought my 05 XB12Scg in October of 2005, I have spent over $16,000.00 for the bike, customization parts, riding gear, and tools. This doesn't even count things like insurance, repairs, fluids, and other consumables such as drive belts, tires, and brake pads.

Know how much of that went to Buell? $9,500.00 for the bike.

They sure are leaving a lot of money on the table. (Love the bike by the way; sure I would have loved Buell accessories too.)

Hardcore H/D riders spend thousands and thousands of dollars in the dealership on bling bling and leather. You would have thought the mother ship would have utilized the same giant marketing machine for ALL their bikes. I'm just surprised at the glaring differences in the marketing of these two brands sold side by side by the same dealerships offered by the same company.

I was at the local dealership saturday and asked Ryan at the parts dept about what cool Buell stuff he might have to offer. He and another employee searched for the catalog while telling me that there was nothing in stock. Then they informed me that they only had the old catalog. I gave them a long painful speech about selling accessories. Time will tell if it did any good.

Talking to the parts department guy is one thing you can do. The person you have to really talk to is the owner. He/she is the person who pays the bills for the store.

If the owners aren't motivated to sell Buell stuff, the guy in parts can't be. their hands are sort of tied.

I wish Buell would come out with some chrome plated flashlights and mid-evil swords with a big emblem on them like HD does. You can find these all over the gun shows.

Totally rad dude

The best "marketing model" I think I have seen is BMW. I can walk into a BMW shop and find everything... soup to nuts.... some made by BMW and some made by other companies. I can also have some level of confidence that what they are selling is something that is (even if not perfect) well regarded.

I can't afford anything they sell after the markups, but I'm not their demographic.

If Buell could make Buell dealers look more like BMW dealers, but maybe with a middle tier for those of us with limited disposable income, that would be a pretty cool thing. Things like the Polly grip heaters, GPS / Ram Mount units and accessories (priced rationally), HID units, Joe Rocket gear (cheap but decent), First Gear gear (expensive and very good) and even some RiderWarehouse gear.

Ohhh... that would be cool... have Buell dealers across the nation be stocking retail outlets for the entire Rider Warehouse line. Now *that* would be a danger to my wallet. Some sort of corporate cooperation agreement. Think of what it would mean to Buell to have all those Rider Warehouse customers walking *past* the TT and the Uly in order to try on a new set of gloves, or pick up a grip heater.

If they did it right, you would be seeing people that were not necessarily riding a Buell wearing Buell gear.

A squid on a beat up old YZF600 wearing Buell gloves

A soccer mom in a Ford Explorer with Buell mudflaps.

Like you see with Harley, you know?

i really never have understood why buell doesnt have much out. anytime someone asks about modding their bike i mostly have to go to an after market company.

Yeah I want a set of those too. My dad bought me a set of H/D glasses a while back thinking that covered it...but I think they would make good target practice.

Those glasses were out several years ago. Good luck, you may find a stray or two still lingering about. (I have one and would love more too.)
