Can't make a lighted 12V toggle switch work (3 pin - power source, to acc, ground) I am trying to energize a two wire aux light. I've done it before but I am having a brain dump. Can anyone provide a wiring diagram or a link to one? Problem is probably in the ground. |

Might want to use a relay in the system, usually the light output exceeds the switches capabitities. |

Normally the positive lead goes to one side of the switch. The the positive lead continues from the other side of the switch and goes to the accessory. Then the accessory is grounded to complete the circuit. That is a simplified wiring scheme. In the real world you should have a fuse between the switch and the power source. Also, if there is much draw or amperage in the lights it is best to use a relay to handle the load and your toggle switch opens and closes the relay. Then there are considerations like wiring it so that the lights cannot stay on (and kill the battery) when the ignition is off. Here is a pretty good discussion of wiring using a relay. http://www.r1200gs.info/howto/relay.html You mention a "(3 pin - power source, to acc, ground)" switch. That is not a common configuration. Are you sure you don't have a switch that has NO (normally open) and NC (normally closed) contacts on the output side? In that case, you only use either the NO or NC contact.
