I just got off the phone with Johnny D at Hoban's. Erik, his right hand man and ace tech, was killed in a bike accident that happened Friday night, Erik passed Saturday morning. Johnny told me that he had worked at Hoban's since he was 15 years old and was only 23. I met and spent some time with Erik last June when we were there for the race weekend at Road America. Erik helped me put the Force pipe on my bike. We took Johnny and Erik out for steaks that night. I just talked to him a couple weeks ago, he was all pumped about the numbers he was getting out of his modded 883R. Erik was a good guy. Knowing how Hoban's operate, I'm sure that Erik was more like Johnny's little brother than an employee. Everyone please say a prayer for Erik, his family, friends and for Hoban's. 23 is too young.
Godspeed Erik.

I'm sorry to hear that Dave. Is it my age or are there too many good people dying lately?

Oh man,,,,23
Our prayers go out to his family and friends.
If there is any solace to be had, it may be in that he was doing what made him happy...

Dave,
Did young Erik have a wife or kids?

Also, can you fill in the details of the accident. Knowing what happened might save one of us from a similar fate and give young Erik's untimely death some meaning.

Please pass all our condolences to the folks at Hoban Brothers.

I did not know Erik that well. But like many of you on this board, that some I have never met at all I still consider friends.. As far as I know he was single.
17 year old ran a stop sign and Erik hit the side of the vehicle. It appears the 17 year old had been drinking but i do not know that as fact.
I could tell that Johnny was taking this very hard so I didn't press for details. Hope you all can understand.
Thanks for all the kind words and thoughts.

I do not have allot of time as I would figure you all know, we have a race this weekend and there are many things to do and taking care of Erik and his family took presedence.

First I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. Erik was truely one of a kind. He started with us at the age of 15. His mother used to drop him off after school and he was never afraid to tear into anything!

He was family to all of us here, I felt like a brother, a father and a friend to Erik. It sure was a tough morning, I just did not want to leave him there all alone, but I know he is in heaven as Jesus was in his heart and anyone who met him could see that as he was always kind to everyone.

He truely went out a champion as he was an intriquet part of Hoban Brothers and will be missed by many.
Godspeed Erik M Pfeifer 1979-2003
