PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. -- It's going to be an early spring. At least that's the prediction from Punxsutawney Phil this Groundhog Day.

The Pennsylgania prognosticator did not see his shadow today, meaning that spring is just around the corner. If the groundhog had seen his shadow, then, according to the legend, we could have expected six more weeks of winter.

The last time Phil predicted an early spring was 1999.

Government forecasters got a head start on Phil Thursday by calling for mild weather in the West, albeit a chilly February in the Midwest and Northeast.

Same with the Southern Gopher!!

LILBURN GA, SUNRISE: General Beau Lee, Ph.D., Georgia’s Official Weather Prognosticator and internationally recognized furry forecaster, roused by "scattered, smothered and covered hash browns” and a record-breaking crowd of Beau Boosters yelling "GO BEAU" waddled out of his Southern Mansion at 7:31 am in nippy, 40-degree weather at the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn.

After conferring with the huddled crowd, Game Ranch CEO, Col. Art Rilling— wearing oversized yellow sunglasses— proclaimed Beau’s prediction,

“Pack your parkas, y’all. Beau did not see his shadow. Look forward to an early spring!!!!”

Malverne Mel and Holtsville Hal are divided on their opinion. However, Malverne Mel lives closer to me, and agrees with Punxsutawney Phil and General Beau Lee, so I'm thinking Holtsville Hal doesn't know what he's talking about. Maybe the winter will just drag on in Suffolk County... http://tinyurl.com/3xlzjj

The Canadian Gopher checks in too...
WIARTON, Ont. — Wiarton Willie says the winter that arrived late to most regions of Canada will give way to an early spring.

The country's most famous weather prognosticating rodent failed to see his shadow when roused from his slumber this morning.

Now everyone in Wiarton drinks for the rest of the day.

I don't eat them, I have really high cholesterol, I eat ceral, what ever is on the menu for lunch and salads for dinner. I have a friend that eats woodchuck, possum and raccoon. I took some coyote backstraps to him and he said it tastes better than coon.

If you don't eat what you kill, is it still called hunting?

Ground hogs, wood chucks, marmit, I don't know that those would be good eats. I suppose if you had a big supply of hot sauce and slow roasted on a spit, and covered the side of the plate with deep fried okra.... it might pass as road food. CityX's love the cold and dirty, only ice and snow have kept me from my duly appointed hooligan rounds.

The Cajuns eat Nutria, which is similar.

I suppose with enough hot sauce...
