Going to the dyno tomorrow. Traded the local shop owner my labor for the afternoon for a tuning session on the dyno. Pretty excited. I wasn't too excited about paying $300 for a dyno tune, so I worked out a deal. I have a 2000 M2 with the full pro series kit installed. I jetted the bike myself and I think it runs perfect right now. I have heard that runs on a dyno can make your bike perfect and the shop owner guarantees the same. So I will update for those interested ASAP. I know I have wanted the answer to this question for a long time. Chris | ||

So long as the Dyno operator knows how to do his job correctly & read & interpret the results correctly, then yes a Dyno is invaluable. | ||

The results are in!! 85 RWHP. The initial dyno run showed 77 RWHP. The dyno technician did complete surgery on my carb. I am so impressed. What an amazing difference. $300 is a bit steep, however, if you can afford it I recommend a run on the dyno. I am now a believer. Bike is now running a 48 slow jet and a 185 main jet. The bike in stock form ran a 200 main, that seems a bit weird. | ||

I agree, $300 is a tad steep. We get $55 for an evaluation (load the bike, warm it up fully, do enough pulls to get a repeatable result, evaluate a/f at both wide open and part throttle under load) and then any additional tuning is charged at the shop rate of $65 per hour. For a full mapping of an injected bike we get $275, but that's quite a bit more involved and time consuming than a typical carb'ed bike tune-up. Your result is pretty typical of what we see, though. It's rare that we can't find 5-10hp on the average bike off the street, most people are running around in a less than optimum state of tune. Now if I could just get all customers to tune their stuff. Sigh. The best motor work in the world ain't worth squat if you've got the timing and jetting all jacked up. A big result is not automatic, you HAVE to tune the bike. You'd be amazed what a difficult concept that is for some people. | ||

Just got back from an early morning, cold, ride. Everyone needs to get there bike to the dyno. I love it. The tech even went through the bike with me and did my 500 mile service since the bike is brand new. Bought as a leftover on Ebay for $5000. The best part of the tune is the amazing throttle response. The bike in stock form also wasn't getting full throttle. Aaron, this shop is very high end, that's why they charge so much. Everything there is perfect, from the clean floors and tools to the slut secretary up front. | ||

Sickquad, That is the cheapest 8 HP you'll ever find. And just knowing that it is tuned well is worth a lot too. If you can, please post a copy of the before and after charts with A/F ratio and tuning details. Send me the file if you are unable to squeeze it down to the 50 KB limit. Where can I get Dyno - tuned in western New York?? 2 local shops in Rochester NY have dyno's but neither has or uses a fuel-air probe. I can get a quick on -run -off for about $35 a shot, then tweak my own carb, repeat, but I suspect paying to have it tuned by guess (and multiple dyno runs) would be cheaper (@ $52 an hour!). I would prefer a shop with an fuel air probe to get it really right. Till then, I'll tweak by SOTP. Thanks. | ||

Aesquire, I ran the bike at both dyno's Cyclestop and Jamestown. Jamestown charges more (I think it was around 75.00). The cyclestop charges 30 or so, take a look at X1 dyno charts from western NY. You see that the run from the cycle stop is useful if you have a runny nose, well the paper its printed on is useful. Jamestown is a haul, but they give you two runs so you can make a jetting change. I'm going to try out performance in Syracuse. Buffalo HD (On Bailey, just of Main street) used to be a Buell dealer. Rumor has it the shop is pretty good. I don't know about a dyno tho. Thats closer too, I'll keep you posted as to what I find. |
