This just in, all the pundits claiming that H-D earnings were ready to take a dive seem to be right. Todays earnings annoucment...

Wait, I was reading it upside down

from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Harley-Davidson Inc. (HOG) today reported an 18% increase in third-quarter earnings, beating analysts' estimates by 10 cents a share

Looks like the ride continues

Just like Buell was supposed to be out of business about 4 years ago.

Buell has pulled in $93M in revenue last year and heading towards over $100M this year. Not bad! But the increase in the first three quarters of 2006 compared to 2005 is weak.

They got a boost with the Uly last year I guess.

There are definitely a ton of Uly's being sold. It seems like a majority of the registrations on the American Thunderbike Club have been Uly owners.

And still they refuse to invest in a serious race program.

With the advent of the 2007 line changes and the talk of the new Sportster, I think HD's financial picture will actually improve over the next few years.

And, I don't think they are done with the product changes.

I expect same of Buell over the next couple years.

Where is that touring bike I want?

"And still they refuse to invest in a serious race program."

Wrong. They are the defending NHRA pro-stock motorcycle drag racing champions and always run well in American dirt tracking.

Wrong. They've just announced they'll be backing AMA Formula FX racing and the contingency program in 2007.

My motorcycle 'purchase criteria' doesn't include whether or not some super-modified form of it has ever won a race. I've never even seen a motorcycle race in person* or on TV.

I would rather them spend the money on R&D for new colors and chrome bits. ;)

*unless BattleTrax counts. In that case my Sportster has won a race.

Wrong. They are domestic race series catering to an American market.

I'd love to see Buell in WSB or Moto GP.

It won't make me want to buy a Buell from the current line-up but I'd like to see Mr Buell at least challenge the world coz so far he's made me look a bit of a fool in front of my superbike friends.

Crusty your killing me....... Must be something about us older guys and giving a sh t about what others say and think.

This bike is the most selfish purchase I have ever made.......And you know it had nothing to do with racing, buddys, wife or kids. It was all about making me happy.

I am still laughing at this! If your "friends" think you are a fool, maybe you don't need a different bike.

Just a guess.

When is this company going to get serious!?

You're still kicking around the same old same old................... at least 8 years down the line.

I like my Buell and I like V twin power a hell of a lot, but I couldn't face another Buell until they dare to come up with something similar and better than a Brutale.

I'm 45 going on 25 and I have been wanting two things from Buell since I bought mine back in 1998. I have wanted a world beating S1 that could break 150MPH, and I wanted Buell to enter the world stage in racing. What you got instead was a bike pretending to be for 25 year olds but bought by old (mainly American) farts. As for the racing. What racing?

">>>>I am pretty sure he will do it when he can" is an accurate statement because 'pretty sure' is NO commitment.

I'm pretty sure I'll fly to the moon one day. Am I delusional too?

"You're still kicking around the same old same old................... at least 8 years down the line."

If that is true for Buell, then it is also true for Ducati, and all of Japan Inc.

"Better" is a nebulous and very personally subjective characteristic when it comes to a motorcycle.

What a silly notion. Buells pretend to be for 25 year olds? LOL! Where do you get this stuff?

Are you delusional? Maybe, sometimes. Are you a jackass? Definitely, sometimes. Please stop with the personal insults. : |

They need to address the health insurance thing for employees and retirees before they end up like GM. No time like the present, if you wait until you are hurting it is too late.

They are just doing what they need to do to survive. I also beleive that this is the first step in a negotiated process and it woudl not be public if the State of Wisconsin was not involved. HD has a long history of working things out with the unions to the benefit of both.

...and with bringing the Union in early and saying "hey, you know what's best and what you can and can not do. Look it over, let's work out something that serves us both well"

At that point the Union, rightfully, has ownership and responsibility.

There is seldom a better way to decide that to enfranchise those who will suffer most from a bad decision.

Read "WELL MADE IN AMERICA" for the details of how Harley-Davidson does this.

Don't think for a moment the article refers to HD making the Union a "take it or we walk" offer. Harley-Davidson got where they are working WITH the Unions, not holding them in check.

C'mon Blake, there's no personal insults in this thread except the ones thrown at me. End of the day my comments might be provocative, but there's an element of truth to them, and provocation should send a strong message. Am I not entitled to send this type of message because I wish Buell to race on the world stage rather than settle for playing at home?

No point in arguing but your Ducati reference, well they were not in Moto GP 8 years ago. Nor were Buell...............
