A friend has an '06 Sporty 1200 Roadster w/ 3,000 miles, that he bought new. The clutch went out. He took it to the selling dealer and they blew him off stating that the clutch wasn't covered under the warranty. They wanted $500 to replace the linings. He brought it to the guy that rents off of me (does Vtwin service) for repairs and said he'd never go back to that stealership.

Is the clutch not being covered normal? I can understand tires/brakes, but not the clutch linings?

How is it possible to wear out a clutch in 3000 miles?
Mine lasted 50,000.
Did something actually break in there?

That the clutch plates are not covered is normal, wear and tear items are not covered. Warranty = manufacturers defects.
$500.00 to replace clutch plates is not normal, they are probably as bad at repairs as he is at riding.

The warranty would cover a failure of a component in there like the throwout bearings and the release mechanism
but if he wore out the clutch like that.... perhaps he should get a nice scooter instead.

Bike is repaired already. I'll have to check to see if the linings were smoked/burnt from slipping or if the linings actually came off of the plates from a defect.

He actually wanted a Buell, but the closest dealer is 100 miles away and I didn't know he was looking for one at the time....or things would be different

or things would have been different................
Oh, yeah, with a Buell, I'm thinking the clutch would have lasted about 1000 miles
