I have an opportunity to buy a used 2005 Speed Triple. Though I really enjoy my M2, I kind of have a hankerin' to buy this Triumph. Has anyone out there had a chance to compare them?

Do you have to get rid of your M2 to get the Speed Triple? Why not have both? The Triumph is a fast bike and has an awesome growl when you open up the throttle. However, I'm more partial to V-twins.

Actually, I don't have to get rid of the M2 but 3 bikes might be too much for me.

If I didn't own a lightning I'd a have triple.. When I shopping for bikes I was looking at both..A good deal is how ended up with a buell..

Bit of warning there is a strong anti Buell bias/Hatred against our bikes on forums like triumphrat. If you don't have tough skin the speed triple forum will down right piss you off. I've heard things like buell riders are jealous of Speed triples and ton of other BS I'd rather not say...

I'm a fan off all bikes. Especially street fighters. But I've never seen Tude to that extreme here on this forum..

The Speed Triple and M2 were the two bikes that I test rode side by side when I purchased my Buell.

I liked the quickness of the Triumph. It was faster off the line than the M2, however, I much prefer the riding position of the M2 to that of the Triumph and I also am partial to a 5 speed tranny to that of a 6 (yes, I know, I'm in the minority here). Having the fastest bike on the road is not one of my priorities.

Obviously, you can see which way I went with my purchase dollars. Ultimately, it was the overall character and ride of the Buell that made my choice.

I've logged over 30K on the bike since then and have never regretted the purchase. Some of my trips have involved 12+ hour days in the saddle - I can't imagine doing something like that on the Speed Triple.

Three bikes aren't enough. plus you'll need another bike to ride when the Triumph is in the shop

How's that for some "tude"?

P.S. I love our brothers from across the pond, but how can one take anyone serious who purchases their tyres from the Avon lady?

just got my buddy an m2 for 3500. so far he loves it, although he has a sportster also. if he decides he doesn't want it, i get first dibs. when i thought about going back on line i decided to change my name to of course nevrenuf. which is why i'm building a bigger garage. just in case i come across another good deal. i have logged on 3100 miles in a week the year after i bought the bike. after 450 miles it gets a little bit uncomfortable but up to that point it's a decent ride.

riding position is much different. seat to peg is much tighter and the bars lean you forward quite a bit. nice bike though,

I like the Speed Triple. Never thought about owning one, though.

Not so. The two modern triumphs I have had, were much more reliable than my Buell.

Y2K Sprint ST sold @ 15K

and a '97 S3 Buell with a busted motor mount

My 1983 FXRS Shovelhead (that I bought new) has been in the shop less time than my neighbors new Speed Triple*

*based on actual facts, you're experience may vary. riding Triumphs may lead to ED, check with your doctor before deciding to buy, an erection lasting more than 4 hours means you've been riding a Buell and is no cause to seek immediate medical help. taxes, tags, title, dealer service fees are extra at customers expense.

If it's not leaking it must be out of oil.

My current dilemma is an XB9R or a Triple, the purchase of either will bring me up to 7 bikes, as long as they all fit in the garage....

The guy I bought my M2 from last year was selling it because he'd just bought a Triumph triple, I think it was a 955 (?)

Something about he had room in the garage for only one bike (a familiar refrain...)

I parted with a 97 t595 daytona(original 955 daytona) this year and I consider it a very good decision. The parts for that bike were through the roof, which was a huge reason for selling it. The bike had an awesome sound and plenty of power, but it didn't excel at anything. It was to cumbersome to make a good city bike, and it wasn't comfortable enough or have enough range to be a decent tourer. they aren't bad bikes, but they lose value faster than a buell and the parts prices are ridiculous.

If had the room and the wife wouldn't be pissed...

A Speed triple would be in my top 3 as a second bike..

The magazines (I read MC,CW, and Sport Rider) all gave the new Speed Triple excellent ratings. I love the new model's look and the motor is supposed to be the best one yet.

I had also considered the Triumph along with the Ducati Monster when I bought my M2. Glad I did it, but would like to own a new Speed Triple if I had the $$.

I took a nice ride on a trip this summer. Great ride, awesome power, very smooth. It felt like a jap bike, no personality. Just my 2cents worth.
