My life has reached a point to where I need to be organized and actually remember dates and etc. I would like the ability to WiFi to check badweb when the Mrs is hogging the PC for her biz. Current short list Palm TX Garmin Ique I pick GPS but will have to add on for Wifi Dell Axim Any others I should consider or stay away from? | ||

I have a Dell Axim X30. Compatible with Windows/office apps, has Bluetooth & Wi-fi. I only wish I could upgrade it to Windows Mobile5 - Which the new Axims all come with. | ||

Ras....Most of the apps I use on my axim have issues with Mobile 5. I upgraded mine and then returned to the previous version. Now I capture a lot of data with mine to the com ports........So I am not the typical user. | ||

I use a blackberry now (company provided) and had a SideKick before that (I paid for). Previous to that, I was Palm all the way. No matter what, small screens == crappy browsing. So I would get a PDA that does you schedule effectively, and just get a cheap second laptop for a second laptop. A Pentium II 333 or above with 196MB of ram, 1024x768 display, and at least 4 gigs of hard drive space and at least one PCMCIA or USB slot (for the wireless adapter) makes a decent thin client for dedicated web browsing. It probably WON'T play DVD's, and the battery will probably not last more then 10 minutes, so you will need an outlet near. After fighting tooth and nail against technology for over a decade, I let my PDA's be PDA's, let my GPS's be GPS's, and let my laptops be laptops, and have stopped trying to use one in place of the other. Lost, How did you upgrade? The only reason I want to do so is for the Bluetooth A2DP support. Manufactures are finally coming out with affordable stereo headsets but neither my laptop or PDA support A2DP. Mobile5 & Vista do however. Linux supports this but there some pairing issues that still need to be worked out. I will most likely hold out on the whole Vista deal until late next year. | ||

They sent a CD that said Dell axim x50v/x50 Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade. My serial capture devices did not like it one bit..... | ||

i keep everything on a palm treo 650. have been on palm since 1998 palm professional palm III palm V palm Vx sony clie treo 600 and blackberry (work didnt support the treo so i had to carry TWO converged devices...one personal, one work!) treo 650 love it! D | ||

I`m tossing up between getting a cheap laptop or a good PDA to run VDSTS on. Any suggestions ? I sort of like the PDA idea as its more portable. Anyone running VDSTS on a PDA ? Cheers Murdoch | ||

I still have my old Handspring Visor deluxe that I use daily. I take notes at school with it. I have the laptop size keyboard that folds up the same size as the PDA. It's only monochrome, but it keeps me on time for my way too frequent doctors appointments and my college assignments. I love the silly little thing. It is far more versatile and powerful than my first computer (A timex-sinclair 1000 ordered out of a sears catalog) plus it's been stone reliable for years now. I'll be sad to see it go when it does finally die. | ||

I can vouch for the Palm T|X. Its a fantastic device. It runs smooth, has both WiFi and Bluetooth, and a plethora of other features for a very reasonable price. | ||

Blackberry and 3 (hey, I'm stuck with them and have become an expert at replacing screens) Palm Vx as backup. I use the Blackberry as a primary and synch both, Blackberry and Palm, to my computer at home every night and to my laptop in the docking station when I get to work. It's okay...not the best. But the Blackberry puts everything, phone, all e-mail accounts and crude browsing (I can at least get to e-Bay and Buell sites) in one place. I got something called an e740 once that was a great display, ran windows, etc and pretty much worthless If you're synching multiples devices YouPerform is handy stuff to deal with the duplicates. | ||

DiabloBrian - I am using that same setup as we speak. It makes a great note-taking tool, and is small, lightweight, and has great battery life. If I had to charge my PDA every day like these new ones with the 5" color screen & wireless & a PIII processor in them, I would likely give up after a week and return the thing. | ||

Treo 650 (not 700) with the wifi backpack. The 700 has a lower resolution screen than the 650 so would suck for web browsing. That said... All the PDA screens suck for web browsing really... You can sync it with outlook if that's where your main calendar is (or it has one built in as I recall). If you have bluetooth with your LT you can use bluetooth to get over to the internet connection (or so I've been told, I haven't tried it yet). | ||

my first computer (A timex-sinclair 1000 ordered out of a sears catalog) I threw out my Sinclair just a few months ago. Used to have a lot of fun learning Basic with it; had the cassette-tape chess program, too. My Axim PDA seems to work fine...it will apparently do a lot of cool things, but I never use it. Have a sub-meter GPS for it and post-processing software, but haven't yet had a use for it. Loading maps onto the PDA is cool but practically useless. I favor a laptop over the PDA. Bill |
