3. And most importantly...Take a look in 90% of H-D showrooms and you'll see the very latest H-D models taking centre stage, whilst the Buells are tucked away in a corner out of the limelight. Which bike do you think the salesman will point people to?

I guess it depends...Is it Dave Stueve, or Josh Cox, or Clown? ;)

Looks even better in black : ) Although the choice of an 18" front wheel limits the choice of decent rubber available for it. I'll bet there will be an aftermarket 17" conversion available very quickly, if it gets released that is.

It's 1996 all over again, when Buell sold their S1 and HD sold their XL1200S.

Their target audiences overlap, but they do differ enough that both bikes can be sold side by side at dealers with good results.

As mentioned the problem is that the HD will be front and center when you walk into your dealer while the Buell will 'own the corner'

As an ex 1998 XL1200S owner, I personally love the bike, it's what the XL1200S should have been all along, an update of the old XR1000 Sporty with modern brakes/suspension, a nod to the dirt track racing heritage of the HD XR750.

There should be a market for this in the US as well as Europe. Hopefully enough people say 'build it' that they will sell it here too.

It's a bit heavy to race with, but it could be a good replacement bike for the old AMA 883 Dirt Track series.

Since it's still in 'development', I have two suggestions, change the pipe to either a Supertrapp 2-2 high pipe or a 2-1 high pipe and ditch the 18" front wheel. There's plenty more rubber available for 17 inchers.

Does anyone else find it odd that H-D would show a prototype bike to the public? They are usually so secretive about model changes that even the colors are impossible to learn about until the actual bikes are released.

Did some magazine have the story and was going to run it?

Very unusual for H-D

"So how is this new bike 'very Nova'?"

Other than the side airscoops, not very. Perhaps the 08 Buells will be "very Nova" watercooled v4 in XB frame.

Not really. It's marketing. If H-D knows anything, it's marketing.

I know you're kidding, but, after taking New12r's bike apart, the displacement would have to be 100cc or so. Also after seeing just how small the XB engine is, along with seeing an empty XB frame, any thought of squeezing a V-Rod engine in there is gone, not that I ever gave it that much thought.

The XR1200 was introduced at a Harley press conference at the Intermot show on Monday. Buell had a press conference yesterday afternoon. I wonder if they had anything of interest to show? No info on "Raptors and Rockets" or the European Buell sites, so I'd guess not...
