Motorcycle rider falls, left behind in N. Naples
Originally posted on October 06, 2006

Police are trying to figure out this morning how a woman fell from a motorcycle in North Naples last night.
The driver drove off and left her, they say.
State Highway Patrol troopers report that the accident happened at 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Vanderbilt Beach Road.
The motorcycle was traveling south approaching the intersection when the woman fell off the vehicle. The driver then continued on, leaving her on the pavement. The woman was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, where her condition was listed as serious last night.Troopers do not have the woman's name and there is no additional information.

The same thing happened here last year. The woman fell off on the interstate and was hit by a semi. She died, he took off. They were both on meth at the time. To make it more bizarre she was sitting on a make-shift seat that was suction cupped to the rear fender.

Maybe she just kept twitching and shifting around in the seat and the guy just got tired of it.

Well (coming from someone who has had a girl fall off the back of his bike, but I stoped) the only way that I knew she fell off was cause I felt her hand hit my back and then heard my coat (which she was wearing) sliding on the pavement. It's possible the guy didn't know she fell off, but I'm sure he would have found out sooner or later and turned back to get her...something seems fishy.

My girlfriend, I try to tell her to always be ready when we are riding. In my mind, she should be as alert as I am, just incase we have to take some type of evasive action on the road. She tends to relax a little too much at stop lights and isn't ready when they turn green.

Until I put my hard cases on my VFR I used to slap my wifes leg every 15 minutes or so just to make sure she was still with me. It is amazing how unobtrusive a passenger can be on some bikes! (does not apply here though this dude was a @#$!head)

Even with the backrest on the Uly, I still find myself reaching back every once in a while to make sure the wife is still back there. I feel confident I would feel it if she fell off, however. I hope.

In this case, I bet the rider was drunk, or high.

Hmmm...Must have been a very large and long saddle with two anorexic's on board to not notice the absence.

Anything else is just plain criminal.

How much do you want to bet the guy has some outstanding warrants or something like that.

I also agree that the passenger should always be ready. I was following this bike the other day where the passenger had one hand on the guys shoulder and the other resting on his own leg. I remember thinking to myself that any sudden change in pace or direction could spell trouble for that passenger. I think it was two guys and the passenger didn't want to be clutching too tightly on the rider.

If the passenger falls off for want of having a better grip/hold, the driver is negligent. Period.

There is many jokes that I can think of right now that shouldn't be said. That is rediculously wrong. My roommate just asked me if maybe the driver didn't notice. Yea he got smacked.

You know, regardless of the various and sundry grab handles on the various bikes I have always had my passengers hold onto ME.
This promotes the passenger leaning with you properly, Keeps weight biased further forward, and keeps things like this from
happening. I've never had to question whether my passengers (male or female) were still there. Plus I can ride harder that way

I've never had to question whether my passengers... were... male or female

I think that's called quoting out of context, but don't ya like the little tingle the females give ya?
