I'm thinking about sport-tourers now that I just finished a 2000 mile trip on the CityX

It's really not bad if you can deal with the luggage capacity and you aren't stuck in several days of constant rain like I was. The soft luggage just doesn't keep the water out that long.

My K1200GT riding friend thinks I'm nuts because I'm thinking of getting a Uly instead of the more typical sports-tourer.

Jim,
It's a good thing NC is a long way away or my 125', not 740', wife might have been knocking at your door.
I've seen one of those things that move commas and periods around in sentences that totally change the meaning. It can be hilarious.

Matt - I don't. Rubberdown has kicked my butt on the Uly with his Firebolt, but I can hang with him all day when he is riding his R1200RT. The RT is a great Sport Tourer by the way if you can hang with the price.

Matt
I used to pack all my stuff in kitchen garbage bags even after waterproofing the soft luggage on my City-X. The Uly bags make that totally unnecessary, and I can pack enough in the Uly bags for the wife and I for 4 days!
I kinda wish I had kept the City-X just to throw around on, but the Uly is so awesome to ride, the spare bike just sat there with nothing to do but look good.
I've done some 1000 to 1400 mile weekend trips on the Uly with ease, about 450 in a day was enough on the City-X. I rode the City-X 12,000 miles in just over a year. I just finished the 10,000 mile service on the Uly in 5 months and 2 weeks.
I felt that my City-X was great and now I feel that my Uly is even more so. If you enjoy the "fun" and "flickability" of your Buell, Uly has it with noticeably more power and comfort.
Any warranty problems have been minor compared to those of my 2003 pickup that I bought new.

I'm tired. We went up tp Lakeport and picked up my new bike. I bought an ex CHP ride that was fastidiously maintained by the owner, a retired CHP who is a car buff and restores cars. He takes care of stuff let me tell you.

67k on the clock, but only $4,995. Small price to pay for entry into sport touring. Yes, I think it is a sport tourer. All the old CHP stuff has been removed and the bike has been restored to civilian form with new parts. It also has kept several CHP wiring setups, like an extra accessory plug and extra lighting set up, CHP calibrated speedometer accurate to within 1 mph, and true view rear view mirrors. It's black and beautiful with heated grips, new seats, ABS, electrically operated windscreen.

I'll see if I can post pics...later.

cool cool cool

I'm taking the crash bars off.

Very NICE Jon, enjoy!! I owned a '96 RT for a few years and enjoyed the power and handling. What year is your new ride?

Really been enjoying the Beemer. It's a very different ride and the best part is that I can take my wife with me easily.

However, Friday night after fighting the traffic home from San Francisco, I hopped on the X1 and WOW! The Beemer really puts the X1 in perspective...or vice versa. I loved the immediate response and handling of the X1. That bike will be my number one for sure. It just is. The Beemer is going to take my wife and I to many places in comfort and capability. She loves the ride!

The X1 is a raw thing. Exactloy what a motorcycle should be.
