A few months back one of my friends bought an Apple iMac, one of the first with the Intel processor. I suggested she get a model that had been out and debugged a while. But she bought the new iMac anyway. A couple days ago she calls to inform me that it was dead. I walked her throught the usual easy fixes and concluded that it had to go back to the Apple store.

Next day the Apple store calls back- they replaced the power supply and the iMac was still dead. Earlier today she called Apple customer service They called back to report that further diagnosis revealed a shorted hard drive. Without even asking Apple offered her a new iMac and offered to attempt to recover the data from the smoked hard drive.

My friend is now an Apple customer for life. Meanwhile, HDI gives Buell owners the opposite treatment and has Buell owners swearing "never again" will they buy an HDI product.

Buellgrrrl, Apples to oranges, Buells to BMW's... we've heard this before. HDI has crappy customer service, BMC is a terrible corporate entity that doesn't care about it's customers, dealerships are full of creepy, suspicious, sleazy salespeople who are just out for your blood and your money. I'd like to inform you that there are a few good people out there who actually care about their customers. Computers and bikes are nothing like each other in real life. In the business world, the computer sales guy says, "yeah sure, we'll get you a new computer, no problem, because they can afford to do it with the kind of profit margin they made on the first one they sold her. In bikes, esp. Buells, the profit margin doesn't really allow to offer you a brand new bike. Believe it or not, the profit margins don't allow a,

"Well, by golly, you're not happy with your used bike??? Darn it all, well, here's a brand new $10,495.00 bike, we'll just make up the difference later. And since you hate your bike, well we feel badly that we made you feel badly, so we'll give you $8,000 trade in value on your bike so you're happy!" *Smiles show all around for everybody and cavorting and frolicking in the meadows and twisties ensues*

This is nothing like real life.

You seem to be operating on the idea that since Buell is funded by HDI there's a bottomless well of cash to draw from at Buell. It just isn't the case, and frankly, you seem to be the one on this site anyway, who is so unhappy with Buell, yet so unwilling to trade that you want to point out the fact that you are to be pitied for being duped into buying such a horrible product. I'd really like to know who, besides you, you have met, either in person or online, who owns and RIDES their Buell and is "swearing never again will they buy an HDI product." because they HATE everything about them.

If only the Buell manufacturing cost was as low as a computer, and the profit margin as high! Then it might be possible.

Really, get off it. You're comparing..... Apples to Buells

It costs the manufacturer maybe $200 to build a top of the line lap top. They sell for >$2k. So replacing a few barely
touches the profit margin. The labor to diagnose and repair would cost them more than the new computer. Or they wouldn't
do it either. You had to know that before you posted this right? If not then you didn't think on it for very long.

Do you think that the manufacturing cost of the current Buells is less than the repair costs on your m2?

Do you think the percentage of profit on Buells is as high as it is on lap top computers?

I don't think that Buell makes a huge amount of money on an individual bike. Erik specifies some pretty high zoot parts
on our bikes. Braided hoses...all of them except the crank case breathers(on XBs) Fully adjustable Showa forks and shocks,
The brakes have always been high quality as well. and other bits too.

All the japanese companies cut corners on many parts to cut overhead and increase profit. Suspension is the first to go
unless you buy the hottest newest thing. braided lines -never. connectors are cheap molex crap. you get the picture.

It was a huge surprise to everyone when Yamaha offered to buy back the r-6 to avoid a class action false advertising
suit. It was big news because...It never happens...ever. You won't be seeing it again either.

Get over it, or sell the M2.

Meh my apartment's getting there. Can't sleep, and badweb is entertaining, especially with madame Buellgrrrl... I honestly can't recall any one GOOD thing she's posted about her Buell. The negatives and only the negatives. SO depressing and sooo... old. Brian, great minds think alike is right. I just kind of went off on a tangent, and I guess you did too.

Well, i'm certainly glad i'm not the only one who's feeling like this is a very very dead, deceased horse carcass.... Buellgrrrl... I would like you to do me a favor. Please tell me why you decided that you wanted to buy a Buell in the first place. Just name one thing ONE THING, that you like about your bike. It doesn't even have to be a big thing, it could be as simple as, "I liked the color" or "The Buell logo looked neat" I don't care what it is, just the fact that you liked the bike enough to buy it. It would be really refreshing to hear you post one thing that you like about your Buell... Then you can go back to being the sour court jester that we always see on Badweb.

Brian, glad I made the list of cool people. The aforementioned nefarious character now he's a whole different subject. There should be a thread on here about him unto itself.

A feel bad for Buellgirlie... the names are so close together that sometimes I fear she might be associated/confused with Buellgrll.

I vote we make Buellgrll change her name to save the reputation of Buellgirlie.

"It costs the manufacturer maybe $200 to build a top of the line lap top. They sell for >$2k."

I'm not going to argue the service issue, in my opinion what is right is right. However most electronics have a 10% to 15% profit margin at retail. It has been my experiance that wholesale profit margins are generally pretty close retail profit margins (I work in the development department for an international wholesaler).

Now I don't know if Apple stores are "company" stores or not, which gives them more latitude to take a return like that because they are averaging the cost of that return over a larger sampling of sales. That would change things some.

I guess my point is (in terms of profit margins and not sales dollars) it really is like comparing Granny apples to crab apples.

>>>> HDI gives Buell owners the opposite treatment and has Buell owners swearing "never again" will they buy an HDI product.

That's an absurd and patently inaccurate statement...in fact that's just plain STUPID. Your credibility has gone down the toilet.

Buell's customer service, even with some glitches, is among the best in the vehicle industry and is WITHOUT EQUAL (no one else in the world can or does what Buell does) in terms of rapid response.

I have my real job to tend to today, but I'll cite a host of examples later.

Buell has done things that NO manufacturer has done.

By the way....the book "Delivering Knock Your Socks Off Customer Service" (the proper cite of which was omitted) was one of the books we used at Buell teaching some of the principles of delivering extraordinary customer service.....others included Patricia Seybold's CUSTOMERS.COM which is still one of my favorites.

Buellgrrrl, try something different.
Like maybe a more positive post.
This is old, you're bitter, and I'm locking this thread.
