About three weeks ago I pulled my 00 X1 off of street duty and my son and I began the process of track/race preping the bike. My son has a few friends that race and he had been going up to the track helping pit their bikes and hanging out at the track. I know how the kid wanted to get out on the track and join in on the fun so I donated my Buell American Motorcycle to the kid to use up.

Friday out the door at 4:00am headed to New Hamphsire International Speedway(NHIS). Of coarse the trip up (2&1/2hrs) had to have some drama. The thermostat on the tow vehicle froze shut. Half hour later and one burnt/blistered finger tip and we were back on the road north.

At the track apon arival my son got signed up for the Penguine Race School and we set up our camp/pit in the infield. For the most part the class room and instructure led track session went smooth. But and you all knew there was giong to be a but on the last track session before lunch the bike developed a mis fire.??? Working on the hot bike I burnt up my all ready burnt up finger from the unsecualed pit stop on the road up. Hot plugs ouch. after installing a fresch set of plugs I noticed the rear plug wire seened loose when pushed down onto the plug top?? Problen solve loose/bad conection.

More drama for the Friday afternoon open practices? Ofcoarse you knew it was going to happen. Our old school lawnmower powered mini bike/pit bike spit the master link on the chain no spare looks like we are on foot from here on out. Oh you want more drama the last two open practices were in the rain. Kid ran good all day first in the dry then in the wet passed many other beginer students all day long. Bike ran smooth/great.

Day two Race day good morning NHIS. Weather HOT and then HOTTER still. Morning practice bikes running fine rider calm but nervice/excited. First up the rookie race at noon. Starting from middle row one ran a good race was third fighting for second on the opening lap a litte mistake on lap two turn three lost a few spots settlen in for a mid pack finish.

Our last race of the day/weekend race 13 novice middle weight super bike. We want to run Thunderbike class but the novice race for that class was on Sunday. Unfortunataly we could only stay and race on Saturday. So we raced in a class we were totaly out gunned. Hey its all for fun any how. Starting from out side row 8 last row. Green flag last into turn one. Ran in last for the first 4 laps. On lap 5 of 8 we cought and passed two riders. Thats where we finished our weekend adventure. We were running lap times in the low 1.33s.

Guess I will not be getting my street bike back any time soon!

PS. I do know where comas should go but that key and a few other are no longer working time for a new key board.

Ohhhh noooooo!

Another addict!

WARNING: quit now before it's too late!

Soon you'll be figuring out how to borrow against your retirement funds, you'll be looking at toyhaulers as a "necessity" - you'll be thinking of a set of tires every month as a "normal" expense...

ohhh noooooo...

: D (welcome to the insanity!)

Sounds like you only had some minor mishaps. NHIS is a fun track. The penguin school is great too.

My pops was there on Friday and Saturday running his KTM. He said the kid on the X1 ran well. You were the only buell on the track right?

We were the only X1 running/racing. There was however two other Buells an XB9R and a XB12R. Both with full race farings. The 9R was sponsered buy a local shop that specializes in head work for H.D./Buells. The 12R was from a dealer in Hartford Ct. Gengras or or something like that. Yea I think my son ran well for first time rookie/beginer/novice on a Buell X1.

You should check out the Keith Code Superbike school. It runs up in NH twice a year...good for all skill levels and keeps you on the track as much as possible, I'm sure your son would love it.
