Hey I just found this site and wanted to get some input on the new Buell Lightings

I currently own an 87 Yamaha Fazer 700 if you have not heard of it dont worry most people havn't is best described as a little Vmax but a 4 cyclinder

Anyways I am trading up and I fell in love with the Buell Lighting, and I took a test ride and Loved it even more, so currently I am waiting till the end of aug, to hopefully pick up an 06 left over while the 07s show up and take the floor.

My only problem is I cannot decide on the 984 or 1203, I have read everything and know the specs in and out about the bike, but I test drove a XB12SS, it was the longer one. and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the power difference is that much more then the 984cc, and the wheel base makes much of a difference

I really like the 984cc city its got a taller seat hieght and looks cool with the translucent panels. But the 10hp and 12ft more of the 1203 does sound appealing, but I have never had a need for the biggest badest bike.

So if someone could give me some input on the two bike from a riding stand point not specs, I have read them all, at least I think.

Ohh one more fun fact, my friend is buying the Ulysses and I wanted to know if we race at the drag strip will I beat him with the 984cc lighting, I am 175lbs and he is 225lbs just wondering

Ok thanks

It's all about what you prefer. Me personally, I wouldn't trade my nine for anything

CityX is really for short trips and tearing around town. Altho a huge number of people ride them for hundreds of miles and are quite pleased. Capable of higher rpm and "spins" up faster more a sense of hp and performance. The 12 bikes are more about "torque" pulling up to speed and wheelying with throttle but shifting at lower rpm. Either is quite a hoot and addictive. Ride em both and see which you prefer. I have a 12X which I am re-gearing to get the best of both, hopefully.

They seem remarkably similar but the rides are quite different. Big people will appreciate the 12X and 12Ss for comfort/ergonomics. Take care and I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

patrick, after reading your profile it looks like you've already decided, go with it! my brother has a 9r and it feels as fast as mine whenever i've ridden it and i have a lot more mods than he.

Pat as a 1203 owner the "smaller" mill to me is a little smoother, the bigger engine pulls harder lower and shakes more too

either way you cant go wrong.

Oooh, the 87 Fazer is one of those Cult-following bikes. I used to ride with a guy who rode a V-Max, and his son rode a Fazer. You should definitely keep the Yamaha, unless it will help you pay for your XB. I am coming from an I-4 as well, and it is a lot easier to get used to the 9 than the 12 with the extra revs of the 9. It is also cheaper on the insurance side of things.

Welcome to Badweb!

Try to ride both, you may have to travel a little to do so, but that will let you know which one "speaks to you"
