I know that because for most riders it is getting toward the end of the riding season so many retailers start putting a lot of stuff on sale. I have been shopping around for a deal on a set of Diablos that I know I am going to need for next year. I found an site that I could get the set for around $180. I also went to a local sportbike shop (I'm not going to deal with a Harley dealer) and told the guy at the parts counter about what I had found online and he warned me that those tires are probably two to three years old and wouldn't recommend them if I was going to do anything on the track. I don't plan on doing anything on the track but that still scares me. Has anyone ever heard anything like that before? Also has anyone ever bought tires from online that were on sale at the end of the riding season?

Thanks,
Carparts

I have ordered lots of tires online/phone, mostly Dennis Kirk or Competition Accessories and never got a bad tire. The ONLY thing I ever got bad is the same story you got from local dealers.

Same here... Always fresh. They sell so many tires that they don't stay on the shelf for long.

I do my own tire changes, and I've bought many tires online. I've never gotten a bad one. I usually get both front and rear tires online for what the rear alone would cost at a shop. I think that parts man was blowing smoke at you.

I only buy online and have never had a single problem. That would be like the HD guy telling you not to buy fork lube from Al because it has been on his shelf for the past 20 years....I never trust people that say things like that.

Exactly... I swap my tires every 2300-2700 miles. Can't afford to pay local shop prices. They're perfectly OK with that though when I bring in the wheels to have the rubber mounted. Also... I tell them about the deals I find on the net and they buy tires off the net too, and now they sell all the tires in town to the people who don't look on the net. They appreciated that and now they generally sell me anything I want for cost : ).

Thanks everyone for the responses, they helped out a lot! I had to go through the HD dealer the first time because I had just moved to Milwaukee to start college and didn't have any other choice and I definitly don't want to have to go through that again. $450 gave me a big kick to the nuts.

I have bought my last 3 sets of tires online. Never worried about the "freshness" of the tire. I searched about 10 sites, picked the lowest price and then called Dennis Kirk. They will beat anybody's price by a buck. Last set of Bridgestone's were $208 shipped. Mounting prices vary, but it is helpful to know someone at the local shop.

Carparts009/all,

Where do you find such deals? I'm in serious need of new tires on a limited budget.

I was hoping to get a pair of Diablo or Diablo Stradas. I'm looking for tires with good performance/milege. I'm testing a set of Michelin Pilot Roads on my other bike.

I have a buddy who races and he has tires all the time from his sponsors that he sells for $75 for the set. They have usually, one practice session and a race on them with about 75-80% tread life left on them.

I've been buying mine (3 sets) from an online store in Colorado with no problems. They periodically have combo (front & rear)deals. I recently got my Metzler M3s from there. It took 3 days from when I ordered them to get from Colorado to Jersey.

I've purchased my last 3 sets of tires from Motorcycle Superstore. They have great prices and free shipping on any purchase over $100. A set of Metzler M1 and Pirelli Diablo are about $205. They'll also beat any advertised price (for that the Pilot Power deal).
