Am planing a small tour from E TX north through W AR up to SW MO and back during the first weekend in May. Would appreciate if anyone familiar with the SW MO area would please suggest interesting lodging options (something different from the normal hotel/motel chains, nothing expensive please) and local roads/routes (~300 mile day trips on scenic/twisty roads) in the area? Will be traveling with family and friends in a small group. Am fairly familiar with the outstanding roads in W and NW Arkansas (7, 16, 21, 23, 309, Skyline Drive) but would greatly appreciate some suggestions for SW MO. Got twisties? Show me! :D

From my road atlas the following appear potentially interesting...

MO 112 between Eagle Rock and Cassville
MO 248 between Cassville and Galena
MO 14 between Ozark and Olden (W. plains)

Will unfortunately be hoteling/moteling due to preferences of others. ohwell Will be spending our first night on May 1st at the Cliffhouse Inn near Jasper, AR. Have stopped there for lunch on other visits to the area; really cool little inn and restaurant; very motorcycle friendly. Have not made any other plans as of yet.

Thanks for your help!

Blake,

The roads in SW Mo. are very simular to those in NW Ark. your choices are fairly endless. As for lodging I can't give you exact information but area attracts many people. I have never had trouble finding places to stay anywhere in the area.

The FSSNOC club had a rally just east of the Ks border last year. I'll try to get information on the area that they stayed. I was unable to go, but here the facilities were outstanding. I'll get back to you.

Blake,

I had a brain cramp. The event I first was thinking about was an antique car race that I was asked to take our 1940 V8-60 Ford Midget to. The FSSNOC rally was in Holiday Island, Ark which is north of Eureka Springs, Ark. As I here the inn was very nice and rustic. Name is Holiday Island Motel and Resort 800-874-1331. Room rates were like $35-40 for a double. It puts you within 100 miles or so of Springfield. Lots of twisty back roads along the way, just avoid Branson.

Nice scenic and twisty route to the east of Grand lake in Okla. for the trip home. Also a real cool museum in Muskogee. Last time I was there they had a copper bodied Rolls, a Vincent and a Norton race bikes, and a Fokker tri-plane.

Hope this helps, I live about 260 miles west of Springfield.

Why avoid Branson its a wounderful place lots to see and do i enjoyed it very much watching all the shows and seeing the people dressed in old time clothes and all the good food heck look it up on the net before you pass it up you would be missing a great place if your happen to be close enough to cruise through there. I may be confused but isnt Table Rock lake right there to we stayed in some cool old log cabins and ate grits and gravey at greasy spoons. Heck i was a passenger but ill get ahold of my bother in law his family has a house on the lake and find out more about it if you are interested Blake.

I agree with Sandmanx1, Don't pass up Branson. There are some neat things to see while in that area. plus if memory serves me correctly, you can get cheap hotel rooms or cabins. just drive around and look, don't order in advance or you get stuck with the tourist prices.

Blake ask SLAB members and ask the KCMOB guys about this area. I believe they try to get down into this area once a year. They may have some info for you.

Blake,

I was raised there. The routes you picked in MO are great. Lot's of off camber curves on the Eagle Rock run.

Caseville has a downhill slaom with off camber curves that drops about 2000 feet going down to the fish hatchery. Must visit. Some of the largest trout you'll ever see. Especially up near the spring by the hatchery.

Avoid US 76 near Branson. Wall to Wall Cars.

Let me pull up my atlas and do some review.

Blake,
I too will be in the state of misery on the first weekend in May, if interested e-mail me and I'd be glad to get together and do some destruction to the highways. I will be starting in the NW corner at Waconda State Park. I had big plans on doing a bunch of miles in the area, but I will be solo so anything is possible.

Yo Guys,

My comment about Branson was made under the impression that they were there to ride twisties. Branson has wonderful entertainment about that there is no doubt. BUT for pure riding joy downtown Branson sucks. You guys are correct that there is much to see and do in and around Branson. Just depends on what you want to do.

Ray,
I agree with you on that. The roads in Branson are congested. Branson is worth the stop though. If only to eat and sleep.

Blaster420,
If you are in the area of Wyaconda, let me know. I am from Quincy. Its about 15 minutes away on the IL side of the river.

Not much interested into the Branson scene/shows and stuff like that. Would rather sit around talking with friends over good food and drink. Maybe if it rains.

Arvel,
Thanks, I'll appreciate any additional insight you can provide.

Ben,
Thanks for the kind offer. Sounds like we'll be at opposite corners of the state. Once on the road I'll be pretty much out of touch. The cell phone stays off except for emergencies, cannot use it while riding anyway. If you see a Black '97 Cyclone and a Black '03 Lightning along with a Harley Dyna Sport and a Gold Wing that'll be us. Pray for suny weather. :D
