Hi group, I'm John, a new member and new Buell owner. I bought a 1995 S2 last weekend and so far I really like it. I wanted an older Buell because I like the pure harley base and handmade quality. This is the first Harley based bike I have owned and there really isn't anything like it. I was over at the yahoo group and one of your members suggested I belonged over here because I have an S2. I think I am in the right place.
This is bike # 1B9RT11H3S3133126. It was bought new in North Carolina and it looks like the bank came to get it. I bought it from a custom Harley builder in Illinois who planned to customize it and never got to it. It sat for a few years but fired right up when I went to look at it..with a jump. I rode it for 2 days and it started to have a fuel delivery problem. It would run about 30 seconds then die. If I waited a few minutes it would run for another 30 seconds. I did those 50 yard hops for about an hour until it got dark. Luckily I had a cell phone and a friend with a truck. I am thinking fuel filter or stuck float and clogged vent has also been suggested. Any other ideas?
This bike is pretty stock except that the pipe had been removed. The seller gave me a new stock pipe but I haven't tried it yet. I kinda dig the way it sounds now truth be told. What should I do first to get a few more ponies out of it? The engine will be gone through next winter but I am looking for basic stuff now.
I am also very tall, (6'6" ) and wonder if there are lower touring pegs for this model. Has anyone tried the Rifle (or other) taller windshield? I really like the way this bike looks but if I am going to be riding this bike to court everyday I could use some protection.
Thanks in advance for your advice. Respectfully, John Miller

John, welcome to the exalted ranks of S-2 owners. After sitting like that carb is probably gummed up.Take it off and clean all passages thoroughly, might as well change intake seals as well as they go bad after a while.Drain gas tank and remove and clean fuel petcock and strainer.Of, course this might all be as simple as the fuel tank vent hose being pinched also.Take vent hose off of tank(at top next to gas cap)and if that makes it run check for clogs/pinches in line.Definitely replace all brake fluid with new as old fluid picks up moisture from sitting.Change engine and trans oil/filter.What type of muffler is on it now?If none put stock one back on as bike will run poorly with no back pressure.Look on E-bay for aftermarket mufflers, lots available. Were any/all recalls done on bike? Then ride the wheels off of it.75,000 miles on my S-2 and counting.

Check your fuel tank vent hose, I did not like the way mine was stickoug out so much one evening so I pushed it under the tank a bit more.

I got a few minutes and shut down, check the gas fire up and vrooooom, few minutes later shut down again.

If the bike was sitting for a while you would be wise to have the carb cleaned and do the complete once over on the maintenance.

Will the supertrapp IDS fit on an S2? I love the thing on my Cyclone. Sounds great, runs great, not overly loud. Or did a 95 S2 already come with a trapp?

Be careful when putting the carb back on. It is an easy job, but it is also easy to fold over one of the seals and create an intake leak (which could burn up a valve). Do the 95 S2's also need the "standard" 195 main / 45 slow / 2.5 turns of the air fuel mix adjustment? Does that thing even run the Khein CV carb, or did those get that trick Edlebrock Quicksilver deal?

Bill "knows nothing about S2's besides that they look really cool"

S-2's need the standard "Harley CV carb fixes" only the 1995 CA models came witht the Quiksilver(Have one).S-2 muffler stock was same big clunky thing as all the rest.

JD,damn!! just noticed that serial #.You have an extremely low #.What is the build date(should be right up on tag on steering neck)My early S-2 was built in late (August I think)1994 and has # 3133258.Yours is way earlier.Definetly a keeper.I have some info that a few S-2 owner friends have put together on changes made during S-2's during production(Might be in Knowledge Vault also),I'll look up and try to send to you.Did you get the signature timing cover stuff?

Wow, Thanks for the great response guys. I can't tell you the build date now Firemanjim because the bike is at home. I'll look at it though. If it was built early then it must have sat in the showroom for awhile. The title I have is the first one issued when it was bought new and the date on the title is 7-3-96. I guess I am not sure what you are asking about the signature ignition cover.
Thanks again fellas, I'll keep you up to date on my experiene getting this bike in Bristol fashion.

Thanks Jim... that is what I wanted to know.... John... that means while you have the carb out for cleaning, replace the low speed jet with a 45, and replace the high speed jet with a 195 or so. Your needle is probably already pretty good, so you don't need to mess with that. This won't be perfect jetting, but it will be pretty close. Also drill out the plug over the air fuel mix screw, bottom it out, and retract it 2.5 turns. Again, this won't be perfect but it will be darn close until you choose to take it to a dyno for fine tuning. See the carb info in the knowledge vault for more detailed info. And it would be wise to replace the intake seals while you have it apart.

You won't believe how easy the carb is to remove, work on, and replace.

And get the SuperTrapp IDS (or the Buell Race IDS... same part different label). Sounds awesome, looks awesome, runs awesome. Will be right at home on that S2.

Congrats!
