M2me:

SWEET!

Let us know when you nail down a format and size that will work. I'm guessing this sort of thing would quickly overwhelm your email account. How 'bout sending you a floppy disk with a check for the poster? At that point, you have money in your hand and wont be at personal financial risk. As a back up, if you can't read someones floppy, you can get the image from them via email, and not overwhelm your server.

Well, I've changed my mind again.

I've decided against having the mosiac image in the background. I tried it and it looked like crap. Way too much going on. I am now thinking of having the mosiac picture in the lower right corner using the Lightning and Firebolt picture as the master. I was playing with this at the actual size of the poster and at first I thought, "This looks like crap! It just looks like a garbled mess of tiny photos!" But when I looked at it at 30% or so of actual size the mosiac looked like the original picture with some speckling. It's pretty cool!

How is everyone going to get their pictures to me? What about the idea that Chainsaw had? Sending them on floppies? Anybody else have any ideas? What I am afraid of is what chainsaw said. My email box would overflow with all the attachments.

Here is the poster with the mosiac. You really can't appreciate it at these low resolutions though.

I think the mosaic works as a stand-alone deal, but when added to basic non-mosaic pics it looses something.

As far as being subtle on the new logo (whatever that looks like, or however different it is from a former logo) what about shooting a picture of something with the logo on it. You know, kind of like wanting a pic of a magazine cover, so you shoot a pic of someone holding the magazine cover? If this new logo is on some product, just shoot a closer-up pic of the product zoomed in on the logo. You know, sort of like shooting a close-up of an S2 gas tank logo and going from there.
Hmmm, how about closeups along the bottom of the poster showing representative images of all the different tank logo lettering over the years? Would probably have to be pics of actual tanks.

I think I'm done here. gotta work.

If you don't understand I can't explain it. ;)

Let me re-try:
If there is a problem with using an image, is there a problem with taking a picture of something with that image on it? Maybe I misunderstood the problem, or the question, or the answer. Maybe I should just go home and go back to sleep. Give me enough rope and I can tie myself in knots. Sort of like I do with words. :)

Mike . . . the picture of the tanks would be no problem, as you would not be reproducing the logo per se . . . .

should I be concerned that I understood your first post? (grin)

For the longest time I wanted to do a series-run on the M2 tank, I'll post the idea here since I'll probably never get around to it and since it's probably already been done:

Start off with an old H-D board track racer, in front of that show an old flathead flat tracker, in front of that show a K-model in race trim, in front of that show an XLCH Sportster, in front of that show a Buell (M2 or S1), and now in front of that show an XB model. All shown at speed with rider in tuck with wind trailings and tire-dust flumes, all wrapped around the tank or along the bodywork. I sketched up some images, but my artistic renderings were not near to par to be worth doing at this point in my skillset. (Consider this my post-graduation development goal, along with my ship-in-a-bottle project, and my flytying rolltop handcarved desk project, and...). What I see in my head does not always translate well to the real world.

CJM, you've got mail!

Everybody,

I'm still working on this in the background. I'm still desperately seeking high resolution, stock photography of past and present Buells. Dave Gess, did you see my email?

I'm becoming convinced that the idea I posted last Saturday is the way I will go. Stock photos of Buells past and present, hopefully including the Team Elves record breaker and a mosiac of the Lightning and Firebolt made with people's personal photos.

I want the poster to be mainly about the bikes, not the people, with the exception of the mosiac. (The mosiac will look cool the way it is, trust me.) That's why I think it's best to go with stock, professional photos of the bikes. I have two reasons for this:

1. The anniversary card will be about the people and their bikes.
2. I don't want the poster to turn into an "American Idol" type of thing, featuring a handfull of people's personal bike photos while leaving the majority on the cutting room floor.

Anyway, that's a status report on the 20th anniversary poster. Not a lot of detail and I am guessing there won't be any major details for a month or so.

I got high res photos today from Dave "40 year old" Stueve! Thanks, Dave! I have put together a very rough poster tonight. Keep in mind that there is a lot of resizing, rearranging, etc. to do (don't even have the XB9S on there and I have other photos than the ones I used on this try). Also, the full size poster looks a lot better but due to limitations with the Web you can't see it. The actual file size is going to be about 200 Mb! You do not want be downloading that monster in your Web browser.

I'm still missing a high res photo of the RW750. Dave Gess, Court, anyone? It would really be nice to include it but the only file I have is a Web friendly JPEG, no good for printing a poster.

Great news. I got high res photos of both the RW750 and the Team Elves land speed bike from Dave Gess. Thanks, Dave.

I haven't done much with the poster lately. I have a good excuse though. The weather has turned nicer here and who wants to sit inside working with photos of Buells when you could be out riding one?

I will get back to work on the poster later this week. Weather is supposed to turn bad. Maybe snow on Friday.

Here's what I've got so far. I'm still not too happy with it. I don't have an X1 or an S3T on there. I am trying for a 17" x 24" poster size. This will keep the costs down but you quickly run out of room! The RW750 would be about 9 inches across actual size just to give you an idea of actual sizes.

I figured the lower right area would work for sponsor logos. I only have American Sport Bike and Hal's.

Also, for Dave Gess. In the lower left is text that says, "RW750 and Team Elves photos are courtesy of Dave Gess. All other photos are courtesy of Buell Motorcycle Company." Is this wording okay for photo copyright?

American Sport Bike and Hal's are the only two "official" logos that I have received so far.

cjmblast? What are the other sponsors? You must have contacted American Sport Bike because I didn't. I did contact Hal's and they sent me a logo. I also contacted Uke's by email but I haven't heard anything from them.
