If you are looking for a different site to find people on I usually hang out at www.sportbikeworld.com there are no squids to be found over there and if there are they are quickly chased away. Most of the people there are avid racers from all over the globe.

We have a few decent ones here..but for the good ones you have to head west & hit the roads along the mississippi river. In our little corner of the state we aure as hell dont ahve anything that rivals deals gap or the cherohola.

I thought the Blueridge parkway was kinda overrated myself. I rode about 150 miles of it a couple years ago. Rode up to the top of Mt Mitchell, etc & was rather dissapointed overall.

As far as the squid rides & folks crashing. Doesnt happen much with this bunch. That doesnt mean it cant or wont from time to time, but the instances are few & far between. Tends to be a little bit of an older poster here. With age comes a certain amount of wisdom of when to push the limits & when to back off. The young kids feel invincible on their bikes & all think they are Ben Bostrum or one of the Haydens. I think most of us here have gone thru a similar stage ourselves. I know I did quite a few yrs ago. Ended up wiping out a CBR & Katana within 2 months because I had absolutley no respect for the bikes or their abilities & my lack of same. But 15 yrs later & a couple hundred thousand miles have cured a tiny lil bit of that. Still like to pull a good wheelie in town or do some stoplight racing, but I know when to back off too.

Thanks for the offer Troy, I'll take you up on it, about the links.

Nice to see another side of you than just the Troll. I'm just not much into bashing others, being bashed or watching others be bashed.

Hope to see you hang around here more often and maybe contribute to other sections here. Maybe someone can start up a Knowledge Thread on Track Riding, Racing, etc... Sure would be helpful for those of us wanting to get started. Or is there one and I missed it?

Dyna, I'm not a massive fan of the Blue Ridge either, its a nice putter along at 45 type drive, but law enforcement years ago was pretty heavy, and I can't imagine it has gotten better. Now, if they seal it off and allow unlimited speeds, hey sure, it would be great. But the scenery is reasonable, plenty of places to stop, you just can't rip it up like you might in a more deserted area. Last time I hit it with a bike was the summer of 88, been there with a cage a few times, doing it again on a bike just for the hell of it. My real riding this summer will be on the roads in Wayne National Forest near Marietta, Ohio. Might try a circle around PA just to see the sights if I have any tire left before I come back to Colorado.

The kids I know on sportbikes, I'm not sure they know either of the Bostroms, or Nicky, and may go down to PPIR just because its a big ride and everybody gets to show off. Nowadays, it seems like all the kiddies buy bikes for the express purpose of impressing chics ( "look at me honey, I gots this here 190mph bike, I'mma MAN now" ) or posing with their buddies who bought a 600, and then they all go out and run down some long straightaway just to make sure the extra $4G's they spent to get a literbike is worth SOMETHING. If it wasn't so damn dangerous being close to them on a track I would spend more time playing kick the can with them on local bike nights, but these boys on the track are usually BAD news...sure to fall down either their first or second time out, and for no good reason other than they wig out and nail the brakes ( lowside ) or nail the gas, get all out of shape, and THEN nail the brakes ( lowside again ). Its best to usually follow them, wait until they start slowing down 200 yards early and just get around and don't look back. If they crash chasing at least they are less likely to take you with them.

Troll,

quote:

My general attitude, when I'm not bashing something for fun...

Please don't mistake my hobby of bashing various things and people as much more than a hobby. Without conflict what fun would life be?

Your cavalier attitude and stated hobby/idea of fun runs contrary to the purpose of this discussion forum. I hope you will consider that in any future posts here.

Life without conflict, without hateful confrontation? I don't need to even ponder that. Conflict, especially of the nature that you like to create is simply evil. Anything that instigates hatefullness is evil. If I ever see you in person, I fully intend to raise the issue. Maybe afterwards, you'll consider finding a new hobby.

Troy,

I promised myself I would stay out of this. I'm certainly old enough to know better. But...

Without conflict what fun would life be?

I would buy that if you substituted struggle for conflict, and value for fun.

Blake, unfortunate you automatically consider conflict something "evil" or "hateful". Last I looked a good healthy name calling catawalling debate happened to be part of democracy and could in no way be construed as "hateful" or "evil". Whipping out the BIG nasty qualifiers to characterise something people are perfectly free to do when participating in something as basic as their form of government seems awful....well...overkill?

Lets try Captain Petes phrase, "Without struggle what value would life be(have)?". Ah. It depends on whether or not you assign such a bad connotation ( evil ) to the word conflict perhaps.

I dunno Capt., the original phrase doesn't sound all that bad to my ears. How about "Without debate what fun would life be"? Surely I'm not the only one who beleives that all of us sitting around on our hands singing "Come by ya" sounds like a relatively boring way to spend the time we've been given?

Rats, here I go again.

I agree that there's a good deal of semantics involved here, and perhaps we both could have come up with better words to clarify our respective meanings.

I characterize struggle, as in your case, as accepting the challenge of becoming a better rider and struggling to achieve that end.

On the other hand, I would characterize conflict, as in your case again, (and you are certainly not the only guilty party in this thread) as penning inflammatory and personal statements designed to degrade a particular individual or group. That's what Blake was obviously making reference to, I agree with him, and I also agree with him that it is not in keeping with the spirit of this BBS. As you have clearly illustrated, it brings out the worst in some folks. If that's your game, fine, you are entitled to play that game, but I personally would appreciate it if you would find another forum to do so.

Nothing complicated there. It's not a message to go away, merely to respect what most of us are doing here.

"On the other hand, I would characterize conflict, as in your case again, (and you are certainly not the only guilty party in this thread) as penning inflammatory and personal statements designed to degrade a particular individual or group" ......uummmm.....sounds like "bashing" would be a more succinct way of saying the same thing perhaps?

Anyway, I didn't come here to troll, so I will refrain from doing any unnecessary "bashing" while here. How about raging sarcasm? Legal around here ya think?
