A few friends of mine and I went to an old road where there is not to much traffic to see how our bikes compared to each other. One bike was a 2003 r6,another was a vrod with supertrapp exhaust and a power commander, and my latus mufflered, race ecm firebolt. The first race was the vrod and the r6. The vrod would jump him out of the hole but soon after the that badass little r6 would come by him. By the end of the 1/4 mile the r6 won by about 5 bikes.
The next race was the vrod and my bolt. I just new I was going to get my ass handed to me , but I really wanted to see how close I could hang with him. I jumped out of the hole ahead of him (he spun) and put about 3-4 bikes on him. It stayed that way until the end of the 1/4. Just after the line he started to pull on me. We then let off. Right after that we ran from a roll. He did not spin this time and the race was a lot closer to 100mph. I had him until about 90mph and then he pulled on me pretty good. The faster we went the further he walked me. We ended up shutting down at about 130mph.
Needless to say I did not run the r6 strait up because he would have killed me. We did get into a little bit from about a 15 mph roll and the little bolt ran right next to him until we hit some traffic( about 60 mph).
The verdict is that the old sportster motor was outgunned by the new hi tech stuff, but proved to hold its own to 100-115mph. Whoever said that the xb bikes were slow needs to go and ride one!

You need to put some curves into your race!

Yes, i like going fast around turns , but I much prefer the standing strait line race. Its alot more popular where I am from.

You Firebolt makes a pretty poor dragster...jeez, it has a 52 in. wheelbase and 77HP. Your only chance to unleash the advantages of the Bolt is to road race. I am surprised that the vrod didn't do much better against both of you. It has more horses and torque than the R6, although it is heavier.

Quote from my wife after attending her first bike drag race, "I guess this is what guys do who are afraid to go around curves!". She had been to several AMA road races at the time, so it seemed pretty tame to her. I told her it got more intersting if you were actually doing the drag racing!

You wont walk away from any of the new 600s with a stock or lightly modded vrod ! Yes, I guess drag racing is for pussies. My firebolt does great for drag racing. You just have to know how to ride it. Remember the bolt is pretty light compared to the vrod. This helps close the hp gap up considerably.
