I need to find some comfortable boots. Something that I can wear all day at work, as well as for riding on the bike. I've been using Prexport 539's, and they're extremely comfortable, but they wear out too quick. I tried a pair of Chippewa Moto Cruisers, but they're too narrow and really make my feet hurt by the end of the day. I know there's a pair of boots out there that are both comfortable and durable, I just don't know what they are. Anybody have any suggestions? |

Hey,get those Herman Munster boots out of the way so we can see that floor. That's the second time i've seen a fantastic custom hardwood floor in your photos.Man,you must have an incredible house built when carpenters were craftsmen,VERY NICE! |

John...V2Win and I both swear by Sidi's...His are the On Road and mine are the GT's...I have actually stood in water about two inches from the tops of the boots and not been wet...One of the moto mags called these the "only" waterproof moto boot...The On Road's have four velcro straps that adjust to fit and the GT's have an inner speed lace and velcro closed flap...They are unbelievably comfortable right out of the box...Riderwearhouse's Combat Touring boots are loved by many and incidentally are made by Sidi for Andy Goldfine...I have 90,000+ miles on mine and the left inner sole is now smooth enough that I'm going to have them re-soled...The rest of the boot is just fine...Hope this helps... http://www.motonation.com See Ya! >>>>built when carpenters were craftsmen,VERY NICE! You ain't seen nothing...there are 6 different types of woods in the floors of the different rooms. One small problem that I'd better not mention. But the A&E channel did a special on the house some years ago. Let's just say it was "difficult" to get local tradesmen to come here to work. |

When at the Aerostich store a couple of seasons ago I asked about the break-in period on their boots. The gal just smiled and said one of the employees is still in the process. Great boots, but ornery to break-in. I like my Sidi. |

Aerostich combat touring boots are the way I am going next for two good reasons. 1) My riding partner has them and loves them. 2) Henrik bought them and hated them. Incidentally, I've heard the break-in period is between 50,000 and 100,000 miles. Court |

I think the guy up north at the time was close to the 50,000 mile mark and his smile was just starting to reappear.

How to break in real heavy duty boots. Step 1. Put them on. Step 2. Find a large, deep, wet, gooey mud puddle. Step 3. Jump in and stomp around for a good long time, get the boots nice and wet. Step 4. Leave the boots on until they dry. This may take a while. Alternating riding and walking will help. Step 5. Oil them up real good to replace all the oil the above process took out of them. They will notW fit perfectly and be broken in. the above editing by Court performed as public service to an aging writer |

DAMN TYPOS. I need a typo trap, something with big teeth and a really strong spring so those things can't get away. They are tricky! |

I tried the Combat Touring Boots, but gave up on the break-in and sold them. I've also tried Sidi boots (Vertebra Race). Overall quality of the boot is great, but the Italian cut is just horrible for wide duck feet like mine. My favorite boots are the Daytona Roadstar GTX from Helimot. After 4 whole seasons of both tour and track riding, I'm getting a tiny leak on the top of left foot - after hours of rain riding that is. Super comfortable. Helimot will be getting what seems like the ultimate combination of safety and comfort sometime in the spring. The Daytona boots from this riding gear combination. Daytona built a street boot using the safety features of the Daytona Evo Sports boot. Henrik |

I see that you are not only looking for boots that are good for riding but also to use at work. I highly suggest the Hi-Tech Magnum series of boots. I have an all leather pair and a waterproof gore-tex like pair and I love them both. I can wear them all day and they are extremely durable. In fact I crashed in the leather pair and you can barely see any damage, just a few scratches. Very good boot for all around use!! BTW, My career requires the wear of boots every day so I do know boots pretty well. I only wish they would allow me to wear the Magnums in uniform!! Stupid Army!! |

Bomber-fortunately for me, the terms of my McNamara Fellowship didn't involve much foot travel, it was more of a big grey motorboat thingy... Dan--couldn't have said your last two words any better myownself. Go Navy! r-t |

John, At the IMC show last week there was a guy from Oregon that imports a line of boots from Spain if memory serves. My current boot is also a Prexport WP360. Nice simple boot but as you said they wear out pretty quickly. My next pair later this year will be from the Oregon guy. I have his card and website info at home. I'll post it later this evening. The guy had on the exact pair I was interested in. His were 3 years old. He wears them everyday riding 40 miles to and from work and on the job all day. He's on the original sole but has replaced the sole insert. They looked great. I tried on a new pair, nice fit. A bit stiff but within 5 minutes they started loosening up. Breakin should be short. Not as short as the Prexports but nowhere near the Combat Touring boots from AeroStich. I'll get the info up tonight. Brad |

I tried 2 pairs of Hi-techs and both leaked terribly. I've currently about worn out a pair of Rocky 911s that have never leaked and feel great - but have 40,000+ miles on 'em. Sidi's look great but felt funny to me. I'd really like a pair and might experiment with socks/insoles to get it right. |

thang . .. what kind motorboat thingie? Ispent a long weekend on a DE cruising up and down the beach . . .sort of a cross cultural excersize . . .I was sposed to get the gunner and such more in tuen with the line animals they were supporting . . . .turned out to be a waste of time, as those guys were just aces . . . . dropping 5in rounds right in little brown brother's pocket, they were . . . .. spent soem time in PBRs, using them as taxis to go to work . . . .. . . other than that, my experience with the navy was limited to spirited conversations in refreshment emporiums (emporiae?) |

Bomber, that's right, two spots on the flight deck for twin-rotor helos and you could launch landing craft from a big well deck aft. Lots of 3" guns and .50's, too, I think they had something to with the current diminished state of my hearing. We cruised through Da Nang in '71. r-t |

I couldn't find any m/c boots I liked so I ended up buying some boots that are made for swat teams. Waterproof with Cordura sides, approx. 8 inches high. The one possible draw back is if you don't like lace ups. They're called Magnums and I got them at Big 5 Sports in Washington but have seen them other places. They are very comfortable. Bob |

Ok folks, I found the guys business card from the IMC show last week. The boots are Kochmann from Italy (not Spain like I mentioned earlier). Looks like they also have leathers and other stuff. The names on the web site appear to be different than what he was calling them at the show. Here's the 411 Top Gear Motorcycle Hunter Crombie 1121 Bailey Hill Road, #8 Eugene, OR 97402 541-683-4670 http://www.topgearmotorcycle.com The boot I looked at was the Autobahn for $229.00 |

I've been considering a pair of Kochmann boots myself. The LeMans was reviewed in the Jan/Feb edition of RoadBike magazine. Little to no break-in required, warm, comfortable and waterproof. I also like the way they look. I saw an advertisement for the Autobahn in the same magazine, but I couldn't find it on the topgear website. |
