Can these little buggers be replaced or does it require a whole new oil tank ? seems silly to replace the whole tank for what looks like a 50 cent part available at an automotive store. My '97 M2 drain line connects to the oil tank via a stout threaded "T" shaped nipple with two male tube fittings around which the oil pump feed line and drain tube are each clamped. You should be able to unscrew, clean, wrap with teflon tape and reinstall the fitting, problem solved. You may want to check the breather fitting at the top which does use a cheap grommet type interface. That can loosen and weep small amounts of oil. The solution for that is to clean and re-adhere it to the tank. Buellistic has documented that procedure and the adhesive type required. The 96 S1 has grommets on the feed, return, and drain. Nothing is threaded, plastic or metal tank on your 97 ? the 96 is plastic. I thought it would be a better idea for it to be threaded.   Blake Posted on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 04:31 pm:        The '97 is plastic with threaded metal inserts/bosses. Are you sure your connections are grommets? I don't think grommets would ever seal even if brand new.   Kenb Posted on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 08:14 am:        I think the key to it sealing is the tight fit when new. Age causes the rubber to harden a little and leak. There is a thread I read here about the glue to use when trying to stop the leaking. As far as pressure goes there really is very little on the evo engines. The old shovels had the filter in the tank so it must have been higher(pressure). Years ago I had an xr600 that had the oil in the frame(dry sump engine) and the lines were only attached to the frame with those little spring clamps.   Jmartz Posted on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 01:16 pm:        The grommets are for real. They quit weeping when I switched to Mobil 1. (Of course, now my grommet bearings are going to skid and be ruined...) r-t
