Today I go for a Cat Scan and if it looks like my back is healed enough to take it I will have surgery on Wed. They will do the kyphoplasty ,which uses cement in the fracture where as the spineology uses bone, in the fracture. They install a balloon and separate the fracture and then remove the balloon and install the plastic cement. I hope to be riding again before long. Now I need to have a bike ready to go.

Be carefully post surgery with those pain meds.. They can cause alot more problems.

Find a really good physical therapist for recovery. I couldn't even do a push up-- now its flat bench 355lbs.

Good luck with the recovery!

Ryker - I work out daily...I don't think I'll ever lift 355...I was overjoyed when I hit 235!

Good luck, and don't push it. I pushed it, and ended up spending 7 weeks in a hospital. But I took it easy after that. I'm good now, and have jumped out of airplanes, boxed, wrestled, grappled, and all sorts of other stuff since I blew my back out the second time. You'll be good in no time, as long as you listen to the docs and don't push it!

Rider,
I've been in on many-a-kyphoplasty. It's a fairly easy procedure and they usually go quite successfully. The concept is solid, reduce the fracture and then stabilize it with the glue. You'll do fine and I hope you recover quickly. One piece of advice: TAKE IT EASY..the thing that people usually do, because they feel so GREAT so quickly, is get crazy too quickly; and because the glue is SO HARD they end up fracturing the vertebrae above or below the fixed one. You're younger than most patients I've seen, so your bones are probably much stronger..but nonetheless.. go easy for a while.

Just got back in. The ex-rays showed that I have 3 fractured virtabrates instead of two. They said they would do only two of them for now. Thanks for all the support.

Hope your recovery goes well. set challenging, but attainable goals. Do not let
anyone tell you that you have limitations. Show them what your capabilities are!

Things will be tough, but it's nothing you can't handle! Hope you're back on 2 wheels
making movies again soon!

It was not a good day. I went to the hospital, got checked and my IV installed. Well I get this phone call and it is the business manager from the doctors office. She says mister Dailey you need to come over to the office and arrange payment before the surgery can be done. I tell her that I am hooked up and ready and she said, more or less to get unhooked. So I talk her into letting Betty bring a check to the office. I think well that is taking care of but Betty comes back and says the doctor canceled the surgery. He got pissed because the bill had not been paid and put it off for another week. Just because their office did not handle the paper work correctly I have to suffer through another week of pain. They could have called yesterday and we had plenty of time to do the paper work this morning. It was very upsetting and if I could I would let someone else do it.

I feel for you, I really do. I had some of my work done through the VA. talk about a paperwork mess!

This is all a means to an end. The doctor was not being terribly professional. Let's see,

Hypocratic oath starts with "First do no harm" I think he failed there leaving a patient in pain because his office
personnel dropped the ball. That's, to quote Bon Jovi, "Bad Medicine"
