I just got home from riding most of the day. When I pull into my driveway and get off I hear a hissing...sure enough I picked up a screw dead center of my rear tire. here is the questions... Is it safe to have it patched?? Is it better to just write the check and get a new tire (even though this one is still good, about 2k on it) If replacement is suggested, what brand should I get?? I would like to get good mileage...I don't ride real hard...most of my travels are to work and back. But I do like to go for mountain rides (no knee dragging)... Either way I have to take the wheel off, does anyone know the size of the axle bolt/Nut??? The service manual just says "Metric"...I know it is bigger than 21mm (that is the largest metric I have). Thanks in advance. Jason |

Slime Flat Tire Eliminator This is supposed to work well, never used it myself. Not sure if I would trust a patched tire to ride the Dragon, to work and back, maybe. Not sure on size as my bike has to be picked up at the dealer in the AM, but your tool kit should have the adapter. S3 won't have an adapter...OOps. (Message edited by zxzer04 on April 29, 2006) |

I have plugged my rear tire with a standard plug and put 500 miles on it with no problems. I did take it pretty easy though, and bought a replacement as soon as it was convenient, for peace of mind. |

Ride-On sealant is great, I started using it in '77. It balances the tire (you could actually use it instead of a mechanical balance, but I like the mechanical balance first, 'cause I figure the stuff spreads inside the tire more evenly that way) and the tire runs cooler, too. My front took 6 fl. oz. and the rear took 9, or 2 bottles total (3 bottles come in the MC kit). http://www.ride-on.com/motorcycle.htm |
