I have posted this over in Storm Fronts but will post here as well.

I have a general question for the membership.

Are there any BRAG Members out there who are or have changed their memberships to HOG? This would be due to the lack of a BRAG Chapter.

Please let me know by responding or e-mailing me.

I am both only because I bought a super glide. So my wife can ride more comfy. She is afraid to ride the Buell much. She likes a big back rest. Thinks she might fall off.

Newfie, you can join a hog club if you are a brag member. You can also attend hog events, you don't need both cards. They are one in the same as of sometime last year I believe.

roadrunr,

I need more info on this, I was considering running for the director of the local HOG club but am getting a bit of trouble from a couple of the members.

My problem started when there is no local BRAG Chapter so I got in with the HOG crowd.

Any help would be good.

Newfie,
That would be what some call HOGitis, whereby their attitude over rides their reason. You probably also get ribbing or worse when you show up for organized rides or gatherings on your Buell as well. That type of attitude is why many Buell and non-Buell owners are so adamantly against joining H.O.G., don't need the hassle or BS. YMMV.

It would be funny though if you ran and did become a H.O.G. club director and didn't own a Harley and got in with only a B.R.A.G. membership. In fact that would be great!

I'm a National HOG member, and a National and Local BRAG member. The HOG is good for getting mileage patches and the ABC's of Touring and such. Being a local HOG member requires riding in formation at the speed limit during their runs. If I wanted to ride with 50 other guys at 40 mph I'd buy a bus!
It is my understanding that a membership allows you into either clubs events, but to be a HOG member you have to own or have owned (loophole in the by-laws) a Harley. BRAG is the same way. We have a guy in our local BRAG chapter the rides a Kawasaki! (he works at the sponsoring HD dealership)

Hey Spidey,

Tried that but seeing I am one of the only two Buells on the Island of Newfoundland (the other being 800km away) I think the club would be a bit lonely. There is no Buell Dealer here on the island. I bought the S1 sight unseen, never even test rode one before, I flew to Halifax, Nova Scotia, picked it up and rode it home. The first trip was about 1500km by road and a 6hr trip on a Marine Atlantic Boat.

I have rode with the HOGs for the past year and some of them are pretty good riders. There are a lot of runs & stuff as well. They also really don't appreciate when you pull out and pass the road captain, however they are impressed at power wheelies.

Dave,

I guess you have owned a Harley in the past, thats my problem I never have and its not a good possibility in my near future. Chances are I will eventually buy a S2 or S3T before I buy a Dyna or Softtail.

If anyone has any more info please add.

Newfie,
I have owned a HD in the past but it had no bearing on this. A dealership welcomed me to the local HOG chapter because I am a national BRAG card carrying Bueller. The benefit? They give "HOG bucks" on every purchase. (10% of purchase used at a later purchase) Cool thing is ... they have double HOG bucks during the monthly HOG meeting. I haven't rode with the club ... but on other HOG rides .... just something about bar to bar and 50 mph that just doesn't give me the fix I like. :)

Newfie, there are several female Blast riders in my local HOG chapter. They are also included in the LOH sub-chapter. The national BRAG and HOG membership will allow you to join either on the local level. This past year, even BRAG members were being allowed to attend HOG organized events. Things may be a little different for you since you live outside the USA, so I can't help you there.
The attitudes and politics of being a HOG officer are tremedous. I can understand the Harley riders' animosity towards a Buell riding director. Actually I can and can't understand it. However the magnatude of their organization make it worth joing. Lots of rides, charity functions, parties and friends.
Like Dave said, the bar to bar thing is tiresome for me as well. I actually don't ride with the HOG chapter, I pull into a sportbike group when I see one and mix it up a little. Freaks them out.

HELP...

In reading the HOG and BRAG National Websites, I see where a Buell only owner can join both National Organizations. In comparing the two, they appear to be identical with the exception of the patches and BRAG's addition of the Fuelling Publication.

Now, as a result of semantics in the above postings, my questions are:

1. Can a National BRAG member join a Local HOG chapter or must they become National HOG members?

2. Can a National HOG member join a Local BRAG chapter or must they become National BRAG members?

FYI, I am looking for a National Policy and not the exceptions made at various Local Chapters.

Quite simply, I would like to join both Local groups as between the two of them the list of riding and social functions is quite desirable. I don't care to pay to join both National groups if I don't have to and have held off joining either National until I get this matter clarified. Additionally, I would like something to use as back up if questioned while registering at the State Hog Rallies, etc.

Much obliged to anyone that can send or direct me to chapter and verse on this issue.

Bill

X1glider...

Isn't it interesting on how a female can join any group, anytime, anywhere without having to meet the qualifications and yet us guys are required to?

Granted they are always a welcomed addition but I would like to think guys would have an equal opportunity. LMAO

At our dealer I keep the Hog and Brag guys (and girls) seprate. It is funny how the Hog guys here are quick to dismiss all the BRAG events but want us to join, pay and donate to all there events. SO i just cut it off at the source and don't bother with em. Hell even I had a Hardley I don't think I would either. JMHO

Why do I get the feeling that in Char's case that applies to all us low life guys. LMAO

Spiderman...

Thanks for the input. In general, I do understand the need to segregate the groups. I just may be an exception. Then again, I have been known to tempt fate on many occasions. LOL

Actually, just had a fun summer with a local HOG Chapter and have made a lot of friends on the Buell. Just am looking to be a "legal immigrant" without incurring more cost than necessary.

FYI, Buell (sport riding) is my primary interest and the HOG events are social.

Actually had the honor of meeting Char and wish I were younger, I would really wine and dine her. As it is, I am satisfied with just knowing and teasing her.

Nevco, Yeah I know what you mean. It is cool to hang out but when they plan rides it revolves around where to ride to eat. We eat then ride then stop some where and eat no planed place just a stop. No ABC's or restaraunts here ;). The only reason I keep em seprate here is for the above stated. And alot of em are anti any thing but Harley. So that to me is a real turn off. A few do have other bike brands but majority rule.

I got my answer in writing from HOG but I really can't let it out of the bag until next tuesday at the meeting. I wanna surprise some die hard Harley Guys. HeHeHe. wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Bill, if your interested e-amil me and I can get you a copy of the letter or the contact person to give you the answer.

In the meantime if Char were up here she would kick some ass with that excellent attitude. Come on up for a run, we can really piss off the road captain by two wheeling past him or her.

Keep the shiney parts up and the rubber on the ground.

Newfie, your national BRAG membership will allow you to join a local HOG chapter and attend ALL HOG functions. It's in the HOG rules. I just checked and it is in black and white. Don't let them give you any crap about it! Have fun with 'em.

Thanks for the info. Am I correct in assuming you get a copy of this rule you refer to when you join National BRAG? If not, kindly advise where a copy can be located.

The info I got came out of the primary officer's training book. My dad is director of our chapter. When you join at the nat'l level, they send you some info, but I never bothered to read it.

I am trying to login to the members only area of the HOG site. My BRAG number is not working. Is this supposed to work or do I have to join HOG first? According to their Web site, any Harley or Buell owner is eligible for full membership in HOG but I thought my BRAG membership number was supposed to give me access to HOG stuff.

My BRAG number would not work until I joined HOG this past year.

After that I can get in with the BRAG number.
