people

I've been to various places in Asia maybe a dozen times or so, and it still amazes me how many PEOPLE there are over here.

bikes

Lots and lots of motorcycles here, which isn't surprising considering it costs a small fortune to own and operate a car. Everything from brand spanky new GSXR1000's to Honda Super Cubs and ...

2 stroke

Little bumblebee-in-a-can 2 strokes! You just don't hardly see 2 stroke streetbikes in the US anymore. They're everywhere over here.

hung

I had no idea it was a requirement or even a desirable attribute of a jeweler, and I was skeptical until I walked another block and saw this:

Richard Hung

No, I didn't go inside and ask to see Dick.

window

The view outside my hotel window.

window

And another.

It really cooled down here the last couple days, only about 90 or so (seriously). It was upper 90's the first few days.

Orchard Towers

If you happen to walk by this non-descript building at one end of Orchard street at night (1 block from my hotel), don't slow down. If you do, you're basically guaranteed to be propositioned by someone offering to do all kinds of nasty things in exchange for the money in your wallet. I asked a guy at work and he said this place is known as "4 floors of whores", apparently they hang out in the bars in this building for some reason.

BTW, I saw in the morning paper that 3 guys were hanged yesterday for murder, and 3 more are still being sought. They don't mess around over here. It's also death for drug traffickers. Crime is very low.

Aaron:

Great pictures and GREAT commentary. Really interesting to get a glimpse of "real" Singapore.

The town looks very clean. Is it?

Be safe, keep the reporting up and hurry back.

Aaron,
Thanks for taking us virtually along on your trip.

Are there any bikes shops near your area? Might be interesting to wander into a dealership over there and see what they have on the sales floor for bikes and accessories.

Side note: how was the security as far as the flying goes? Any noticible changes from a year ago?

Court: Not only is it spotlessly clean, it almost seems like every freakin' tree and shrub is manicured to perfection.

I guess it's a serious offense to chew gum here. Probably get caned or something.

Mike: there are bike shops everywhere, even a Harley shop. Most of the shops are little cubbys in busy shopping centersbut the new dealers tend to have fancier facilities, not on a par with the US though.

Security was about the same as it has been since 9/11.

Dave, I should've done that, I walked through it but didn't have my camera with me. Pretty interesting though.

R-t and Cowboy, I'll take a look, thanks!

Court,
Singapore is the cleanest city I've ever seen or even heard about. There isn't even any trash in the gutters. 'Course, I've never been to Europe. Been all over Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

Hey AW:
It's been 15 years since I've been to Singapore, hasn't changed much. It's ironic that the speed limit is 80kph and you will some of the most exotic cars and bikes around.
When I was there the fine for littering was $200sing, even for a cigerette butt!
You also need to watch our for what is propositioning you since the "He-She" population is very large.
I did a lot of work on the West end of the island and ate off the economy out there for real cheap (just don't ask what you are really being served ;+})

Time2Roll.

My Dad served in 'Nam and did his R&R in Singapore.

I asked him if he was ever hurt during the war and he said, "Ooooh, yes". I asked him why he didn't have a Purple Heart and he said, "They don't give you a medal for catching the Clap in Singapore".

Ouch! Bomber--somebody turned us into old men while we weren't looking!

I had a buddy who got hurt catching the clap--the bouncer beat him up on his way out of the King's Castle on Patpong Road...

Gee Guys,

Your all making yourselves sound OLD.

Give it up, old guys don't ride Buells. They get them scooters like are advertised on TV. You know the ones the companies guarantee youthat they can get you approved for a scooter if your medical insurance denies the request.

Now heres a thought, if a doctor prescribed a new bike to help with your accessibility and to be mobile would the medical insurance pay for it.

Someone save me as the cold weather is really getting to my head.

Come on March

You can march all you want, spring won't get here any sooner. ;)
Keep chanting, that was working. But then you stopped to eat and sleep and it got cold again. Chant, man, chant.
