OK, we took a brand new XB9S with 6 miles on it. We put in a race ECM and high flow air filter.
We tested the Latus first.
76.1 HP
58.4 lbs of torque

Then we put a Wileyco on it,
72 HP
56 lbs of torque

The Wileyco is lighter than the Latus, the Latus is louder but not Force loud.
The printer on our dyno isn't working so I can't post the actual sheets but will try to get them next week. Both pipes still have a dip in the mid range.
I also got a dyno sheet from D+D today,
stock bike.
68.8 HP
66 lbs of torque
Best mid range, least HP

Dave,
Don't tell anyone you ran a brand new bike on the dyno without breaking it in.

Oops! Too late.

Do you have Winpep? No need to go to paper to generate a sheet. Right click on the chart, select "Export Dialog", choose .bmp, then use Paint or something similar to convert it to a .gif for uploading.

Digging through the web, I found this,
http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
I do not buy ALL this authors concepts, (but he DOES give me permission to wick it up) He says the Dyno is the Ideal place to "break in". I suspect he also wears tin foil hats, and says to avoid synthetic for 1500 miles. Any opinions anyone?

I DO agree with his thought on oil change during break in.

Dave,
How would you compare the sound volume levels so far? I'd love to see a sound comparison of the Buell Race, Latus, Force, D&D and Wileyco like a 1-5 rating (idle volume, open throttle volume and general throatiness) if you could.

Bykergeek,
I didn't hear the Latus, They were just putting it on and I had to go home to let the dog out to do his business. When I got back they had already had it on the dyno and had the Wileyco about on the bike. I was bummed. Craig said it was louder than the Wileyco. The Wileyco sounded great, not quite loud enough for me but not everyone likes them as loud as I do.
So far in my opinion her's the scale, 5 being loudest.

Buell race muffler Idle 3, Wide open 4
Wileyco 3 4 Latus "based on Craig" 4 5

Weight 5 being heaviest
Buell race muffler 4
Wileyco 3
Latus 5

Thanks Dave. The buell and Wileyco are pretty similar volumewise? I'll be ordering a Wileyco from you soon (probably when I get paid next month).

Daves,

Are you saying the stock bike put out 68HP?! There must be something reeeal wrong with it...or maybe I am reading your data wrong, and the D&D pipe made the 68HP. I have a hard time believing the same bike could pick up 8HP with a pipe!

Although your hopped up numbers look a little low too, they are closer to what I've seen. I've had my stock Firebolt on two Dynojets and it put out 76HP on one and 77.5 on the other (the bike was more broken in at the second run).

I temporarily put on the race kit muffler and got 3HP on top of the 76 run, with a differently shaped torque curve that had more torque in some places and less in others. Even though I would have like the 3HP, I chose to leave it stock, because I hate noise...had enough in my racing days!

Imonabus,
We didn't do a stock run. D+Ds chart showed only 60 HP stock.
I'll run a stocker next week for you and post the results.

If D&D's dyno says a stock bike put out 60HP, they either have a problem with their dyno or the bike. What would make me nervous in dealing with them is that they could even publish these numbers. The XB9R measured vehicle performance numbers could never be attained with that level of power, which shoulda been a clue... I suspect you'll see differences from stock to race similar to mine. A few HP is acceptable as a variance between dynos, but not those numbers!

I'd love to see if a D&D pipe makes 8HP more on your dyno. If it did make 8 more, that would give my bike 84...I might even put up with the noise! Actually, probably not, I just came back from scaring the heck out of myself on an over-adrenalinized ride, so I should leave the darned thing alone!

Now you've got me wondering. Like I said I'll get a stocker on the dyno and at least then we'll know what they do on our dyno.

Daves,

The dyno chart latus sent me showed 81.5 hp and 62.5 torque. They said that was with a stock bike. No race ecu or air filter. Seems like there is either a lot a variance in the xb's or in the dynos. Probably a bit in both.

Here is my stock dyno sheet. We only ran the bike to 6500 rpm. This was done today on a Factory Pro EC997 Eddy-Current Dyno. I have a Latus pipe on the way. I will do another run to compare this then. Same bike, same dyno. Unfortunately, Latus had 18 pipe orders to fill and no pipes built. They told me that mine should be ready to ship by the end of the week if all goes well.

The guy running the dyno thought that my bike was running pretty lean, especially at lower rpms. Any experts out there. If so take a look at the chart and comment.

Why did they only run it to 6,500 rpm??? Get yourself another dyno operator who knows what the hell he is doing with a Buell. Dave needs to go kick some ass. ;)

Also, please describe the bike and any modifications it might have, mileage, lubricants, any correction factor used?...

Without a correction factor it is impossible to comment on your results. Get them to do a proper run, with a readable A/F scale, corrected HP and Torque, and a run all the way to redline.

Dave S.

If you have hardcopies of all your XB dyno runs, and if you can snap a digital photo of them and email the jpg files to me, I'll post 'em. :)

Blake,
The printer is broken on our Dyno. Trying to get a new one for it.
I have not been able to do any more runs the last week or so. I'm waiting for my Hoban Brothers heads to get back so we can run the 1050 Firebolts we are putting together.
