if it's based on the exhibit that was at the Guggenheim, then DEFINITELY go....if nothing else, you'll get up close to a Britten...and that don't happen every day... (Message edited by lpowel02 on April 14, 2006) |

Saw it in Las Vegas. Spent hours there - still wish I'd had more time. If you're anywhere close, go. The selection of older bikes is amazing. Getting an up close and personal look at the various ways they managed to acheive the functions of propulsion, braking, shifting etc. is incredible. It becomes quickly evident that things we take completely for granted weren't even thought of. There were some very creative individuals - very humbling. |

So you saw Aaron's RS that Court rode in from Colorado? As a matter of fact I did. However, my wife didn't seem to appreciate the novelty of the bike nearly as much as I did. |

>>>>So you saw Aaron's RS that Court rode in from Colorado? To this date, the ONLY bike ridden to the show. Vickie and I had dinner with Kirsteen Britten and Jim Hunter ( a pal who owns the Britten in the show) and I keep teasing him to take off on the Britten, and ride it for a 15 hours day at warp speed and then display it the following morning. Different in EVERY Sense. |

I went the Chicago show and this year during Bikeweek went to Orlando. YES you can take pics, you have to buy a camera permit. Its worth it. Very cool, I got to see the Britten again, spent 20 minutes or so, took LOTS of pics. The Buell is right across from the Britten, with the Buell overlooking the gardens and road outside. Its kinda special, the Britten and the Buell together, IF only those two special men had gotten together......... Go see it, it's worth it and ALL the great motorcycles there. And I bought the dvd version of the book for Orlando, easier to carry in the tankbag. |

>>>>IF only those two special men had gotten together....... That meeting was set. I hope you'll be able to read about some of the fascinating phone conversations. The two saw many things in a similar fashion and shared an amusement for how some engineering solutions unnecessarily complicated things. There were many commons elements between the two and several quite pronounced differences. To really get a feel for John Britten, you'd need to read, in fact study between the lines, both books about him. Temper your reading with the knowledge John was not perfect and the first book was written by his wife's cousin. Temper your reading of Tim's book with the fact that he was turned down to write the one Felicity wrote. Somewhere in the great divide....... I am in the early stages of doing a book about Buell. Only a portion will be about Erik, only a portion about motorcycles....there's simply too much more to write about. In fact, in the opening paragraphs is a phrase something like "the problem with trying to write a book about Buell, is that you keep wanting to write about motorcycles". |

I saw the show in Memphis last summer. The show was very well done, and worth the trip and money to see it. |

Court-we have to chat, maybe at Homecoming. I saw the Britten at Daytona several times, and the year John passed, Andrew Stroud rode a race I will never forget. And his wife, kids stayed at our motel. We spoke several times in the evening at the motel. I need to read those books, I have the video. Just the thought of John and Erik......with some capitol behind them. |

I am going to be home on my 2 week R&R leave and my wife and I are spending a week in O-town. I already told her I want to go to this show. I can't wait! Coolice - how much is a camera permit, and how does one buy it? Is it something I can buy in advance, (from halfway around the world) or do I buy it that day? I've got a good digital SLR and a few CF cards and extra batteries, and will definitely get my money's worth out of a camera permit... |

Admission in Orl is $15. A photo permit is $3.50. Both are purchased at ticket window. Well worth the time and $$. Go to www.OMArt.org for additional info. Frank |
