I would not normally be posting something like this or name names but I want to give a heads up warning about a person I been having to deal with on EBay.

I put up for auction an excellent condition S1 tank bra that I had bought new in 1996 when I had my 1996 S1.

The auction ended and the tank bra only sold for .99 cents. In the auction description and instruction’s it clearly stated that insurance was required along with delivery confirmation and shipping charges.

The grand total came to 14.19. I get an email from the person that won, his name is Dustin Sievers, EBay name, siev2000 (he has been buying and selling Buell items) stating that he is not going to pay for the insurance and that he will only be sending 10.99 out of the 14.19 that was actually owed.

I informed him that he will have to pay the full amount or else the item will not ship. He then sent me an email stating that there is nothing I can do about it, he is only going to pay 10.99 and if I don’t like it too bad, that is the way it’s going to work. I am being very kind here, his email was much more graphic then I have stated.

I promptly called PayPal to see what could be done. I was given instructions in what to do. Was told that if he only pay’s 10.99, immediately refund his money.

Well, wouldn’t you know, he made a payment of 10.99 which was refunded within minutes. So I get back on the phone with PayPal and explain what has taken place and make record of his attempt to (for a lack of better words) extort the tank bra from me.

I was given some addition instructions in what to do and how things were going to be handled with this guy on their end.

Not too sure what is up with this guy, he has great ratings and for what ever reason decided he was going to be an arse?

Beware and proceed with caution if you have any dealings with this person, he just might try to pull a scam on you like he is attempting with me.

Luckily, I am a very proactive person and will meet these types of challenges head on and find some sort of morbid enjoyment out of stopping a yahoo like this dead in his tracks.

My apologies to all of you for such a long post, I just would hate to hear about one of my Bad Weather brothers or sisters getting stung by this guy.

Thanks,

Jim

Send him 2/3's of the tank bra. Get his address. Post it here. Meanwhile, let's sign him up for some gay internet porn!! Pecker head.

I'm ignorant so please excuse the following stupid question:

How is it that insurance for a $0.99 item cost $3.20?

That was the fixed rate Ebay used when I stated that I wanted insurance coverage.

The item could have sold for 30-40 dollars, I had no way of knowing that is was only going to sell for $0.99.

It wasn't the right time on EBay, take the good with the bad.

I also had a little P75 laptop for auction. Great little laptop in fine working order with the full MS Office suite installed with an extra battery. It sold for $2.95.

I'll insure the laptop at what I think is a fair market value (which is around $100.00), not the $2.95 that the person actually paid. I would have done the same for the tank bra, it is worth a little more then $0.99.

The problem with the person's actions is that, it is fully disclosed in the auction description and instructions what the fixed cost is for insurance (it was no surprise), no matter if it sells for $0.99 or $500.00. If you don't like it, don't bid or send an email to the seller asking hey, if it sells for this could you maybe do this then.

You don't send an email to the seller after you win saying, I don't like that, this is what I am going to pay you and if you don't like it too bad, you can't do anything about it.

And now, because of his actions, I lost my chance to re-list the item with out further cost. I had to pay my EBay fee's and PayPal fee's and also had to pay fee's to refund his $10.99. Oh yeah, I can't sell the item again until all the digital paper work has cleared.

Blake please don't take my explanation of the insurance the wrong way. I just re-read it again and one can sense my frustration and it is no way ment to be directed at you at all! : )

Well. . . if ya'll need a bit of e-bay humor, I think I came up with it yesterday.

It'll take me a couple days to overcome the embarrasment and my SCU is still shaking her head and only talking to me in single syllables.

This is a great world. . .

: )

Well done Jim.

If it's part of the final calculated amount, then his ebay seller's fees will be based on the total amount -- so if he gets screwed on the insurance, he'll still have to pay the full seller's fees. You could have canceled the auction just before the end and stated the item was damaged or otherwise no longer available... At any rate, report him as a non-paying bidder and get ready for the negative feedback that this yahoo will undoubtedly send. In the meantime, gather his contact info and if any part of it is invalid or missing, that will be grounds to have any negative feedback removed -- it's one of the few reasons to have it removed (unable to contact buyer)...

Steve.

If the buyer would rather get negative feedback than pay the few $$ then he's a dope.

*note to seller
If you don't like using a "reserve" (I personally don't like reserves for small $$ items) then start your item at the least amount you would sell it for.

I gotta respect a seller who is still willing to ship a ~$30-40 item even though it sold for only $.99

Jim,
Good job on not letting him beat you..but... let me offer some eBay advice. My wife owns an eBay store and we ship upwards of 200 packages a month at times. DON'T use ebay's shipping/insurance calculator. We ship everything in the US for $12 flat rate for the first item. That is Priority mail, delivery conformation, and insurance all included. Priority boxes are FREE from the USPS. We order them by the hundred. I think that insurance is something like $2.00 now for up to $100.00 in coverage. Although the eBay calculator gives these higher fees it is actually against eBay policy to charge more than the insurance costs you. If you do a lot of selling, learn the tricks to save you time, money, and headaches.
Also, don't do 99 cent auctions unless you are willing to lose it for 99 cents. We do, on occasion list a pair of boots starting that low and take the risk of having to hand over a $100 pair of boots for a buck. It is more of a marketing ploy because many people search for "lowest priced first".
You can always write if you need help with eBay!

Blake: It didn't cost that much. eBay and PayPal will calculate it and it is NEVER right! We used it once and couldn't figure out why nothing was selling. When we checked the calculator it was giving $20 shipping fees to our own address!

USPS insurance on $.99: $1.35.

"I can't sell the item again until all the digital paper work has cleared"
Of course, you can - they don't know it's the same item, just click "Sell Similar".

Whether he leaves you negative is partially based on is he an idiot or not (many more are yes than no IME), but also who has the higher rating?
I had an idiot leave me a negative because I wouldn't use a more expensive method of shipment unless he paid for it (he refused the terms clearly listed). He wanted a 6 oz. booklet placed in a cardboard box, then peanuts, then another box, then insured, and sent by Priority mail. I was expected to eat the difference.
Why not a good idea?
My rating is +1465, so 1 negative put my 99.86% all the way down to 99.80% - who cares?
His was +70 and perfect @ 100%, now it's 98.6%.

Moral: if your positive is 1/10 of your opponents, don't annoy him even if you're right.
