this was a $100.oo rat bike when I got it. Had the step up seat, cruiser style tank, 16" mag in rear and 18" mag in front. Has 18" wheels front and rear. the seat is a hotwinglass, the tank is a 76 xs500 tank. The bike ran great, just looked like crap. A little paint, polish and new seat worked wonders,, It has no mufflers and is still quieter than my buell. Have about 1200.oo in complete project. Thanks for the compliments

Tom_b: I love the 400. I think a little black paint on the header wrap would clean it up quite a bit.

Regarding the 650, I got two words for you:

Street Tracker

"deciding what to do with it"

Street tracker for sure!

I like your cafe project, my son turns 16 in a year and I was thinking of a project along those lines.

Your bike has Ace Cafe written all over it. If I were you I would send a couple of pictures to their site.

http://www.ace-cafe-london.com/

Check it out. Especially the photo gallery.

Try to find a set of Clubman bars for your bike. That would really set it off.

Nice work Tom and others. Here's my expression of just that. ironhead Sportster, 350 Honda four turboed and 350 (450 cc's) Honda single flatracker. You guys have spurned my renewed interest in doing another one soon. Love the look and sound of the 650 Yamaha's and there cheap. Bob

For your 650, only one thing to say.

I have an Aermacchi sitting up North just waiting for a little cleaning up. My Uncle set the 1970 125cc landspeed record with it. It has been parked ever since.

I am so going to fix it back and and go ride it!

That's a cool job you've done with that 400 Yam. I like the seat and tail light. The price is astounding considering the results. Best bang for the buck I've seen in awhile.

Good on you!

That's a nice job on the Yammie!!! I have an '81 KZ440 that is begging for that type of treatment. The only problem is that it is in mint condition and I am torn about keeping it original. Maybe i can convince the SO of the need for a 80's UJM cafe project.

For you midwestern locals, the April 2006 edition of Midwest Motorcyclist has an article in their American Cyclerider section written by James Bennett and titled:
1997 Buell Cyclone Street Tracker Project.

Not sure I care for his choice in mirrors, but it's interesting reading of the things he did to it. In any case, just a heads-up for you locals.

I'm in the middle of doing the same thing on my 72 Yamaha XS2 650. Omar's has some great stuff. Actually that is where I got my 4 way adjustable handle bars for my X-1.

But instead of street tracker, I'm leaning more to the Manx TT kit.

Thanks all! I didn't notice how discolored the exhaust wrap was already, some black paint is in order. As far as my 650 goes, I'm gonna make it into a early 1900's board track style. As soon as I get my honda bobber done. I'm always looking down the road at future projects.

Tom,
Great looking bike! All of em... I have always liked the Dirt/Street trackers. I had an old Yamaha 125 when I was very young that ended up in pieces in the barn. I was going to resurrect it last year but my Uncle had cleaned the barn and tossed it. But you guys got my ideas swirling again. Omar's site has great stuff on it. I saw 3 of the old Yamahas today and looked at them in a whole different perspective. Thanks and keep the project pics coming.

Balls! I love cafe racers.
The Firebolt looks kinda-sorta like a cafe bike. Well, it'll do for me, anyway.
