Well the lurker needs help again. I called buell b/c I was unsure if my bike was affected by any of the recalls. So The customer service guy said that I will need to get the shock and exhaust mount fixed, at no cost to me. Which leads me to my question. First will I have to put on the stock exhaust so that it does not void the recall and should I be cautious of HD/Buell dealers that have only been selling Buells for a short time or is it worth the three hour drive to one that I know has carried Buell's for a while???

Not knowing where you are it's hard to say which dealership you may be talking about. Length in business does not necessarily coorelate to quality of service, no way to say which is better. One thing to ask is if they can fix it while you wait, or do you have to drop it off, then come back in a day to a month when they get it finished after they get the parts in. Oh, ensure they have the parts in stock to do the work with before you take your bike in. I never did get the new front muffler hanger with my shock upgrade, might have been a windowing timeframe deal.

I live in Omaha Nebraska. There are two with in reason one is Frontier HD and the others is a new one Dillon bros HD. I am leaning in Frontier's direction since they have been pretty cool about things when i needed parts or just venting about having to buy my second speedo sensor. I would like to get over to Waterloo but that seems to be out of the question since it is really far.I talked to customer service and he said that he would do the exhaust mount even after the deadline. Pretty nice guy (John). I found my stock exhaust but the guy I bought the bike from did not give me the rear straps..Oh Well. All I have on is a Vance and Hines slip on so it shouldnt be that big of a deal.

Phatkidwit1eye,
First off, what a name! hahahahaha
I have heard that the new dealer is trying so maybe give them a chance? I know Frontier does a pretty good job so I guess it's a coin toss for you.
Omaha, that's not too far from us! Are you interested in doing some track days at MidAmerica with us this summer? First one is April 10th. If you want to, get in touch with me and I can get you signed up.
We have a full schedule of cool stuff coming up, Rides, BattleTrax, Track days. You should consider joining us! Anyway, let me know what you want to do about getting the recalls fixed.

Ride to the edge!

Just go to the dealer of your choice and enjoy the experience. Last Fall, my SRP equipped shock failed and it was replaced for a $100 Goodwill fee plus labor. Even though my old style exhaust mount was not broken, I paid parts and labor to have it replaced at the same time. Figured it was cheap insurance compared to having to deal with a busted up aftermarket exhaust should the original mount cause failure.

In my case, I am not the original owner and the bike was out of warranty. As I wanted the bike repaired asap, I agreed to pay for all parts and labor and see if HD would Goodwill any or all of it. The shock was leaking and they did. Neither the mount nor the muffler was damaged and they didn't.

I personally feel this was a fair and equitable transaction. It would have been nice to know if there was any Goodwill prior to receiving the invoice, but it may have been a busy day at HD. Then again, I was pleasantly surprised and very pleased with the outcome.

Daves..Thanks for the offer, I might just have to take you up on the offer. I dont think I would race just yet I have only been riding for about 8 months but I would love too see a race in person and the same with Battle trax. I will call Frontier tomorrow and see how long or if they have the parts in. If not and you already have the parts in I would rather just come up there instead of waiting for a long time to get the parts in. John at Buell said it was a "BP7" and a "0820". Thanks ..Ron

So let me get this straight If the shock is leaking then it IS or can BE a serious problem. At this point I am so used to all my vehicles leaking something it didn't seem like that big of a deal. Luckily it only started a couple weeks ago. I am just glad that it will be replaced.

Leaking shock is not good. Even at full price, the Buell replacement is a quality shock at a reasonable price and will make you happy unless you are a hardcore race type.

When my shock leaked the bike was like a springboard in that every little bump was bouncy, bouncy, bouncy - sort of like a tigger.

I would get it repaired as soon as possible.

Mike, I would suggest if you are in Racine & end up needing work for whatever reason..stay far far away from Racine Harley. They are new to Buell, have been selling the Blast for about a yr & they just started with the XB's. I dont think they have sold one yet tho.

Anyways, the shop monkeys in the back are a joke. I detailed the farce I went thru on a tps reset on a much earlier post. Very bad experience.

Also they had a V-rod they were prepping for sale. Body parts were just laying on the concrete floor, people stepping over them, etc. I actually saw one of the guys kick the front fender as he went by. Unbelieveable.

Phatkid,
The track days aren't for racing(right guys?) they are for increasing your riding abilities in a safe, controlled enviroment without the distractions of a public road.
There are going to be Formula USA races there on May 24-25th and then a track day on the 26th
Call me first if you want to bring your bike up to us to fix so I can make sure we have the stuff on hand when you get here.

Dave,
Doesn't that depend on the specific track day you're talking about? Some are set up to allow road riders to better learn the limits and allowances of their bikes and to then become a safer and better street rider. Others are set up as a sort of racing school to give new track riders a feel for riding on a track and to help them decide if they want to go to the next step or level and try a little racing. And still other track days are more like an open-track day, hold your lines, do what you want, stay relatively safe, don't kill yourself or anyone else, and have the occaisional grudge race on the open track for a lap or ten.

Don't most "track days" have their intent for the day posted with the signup info? I'm probably wrong on all of the above.

The ones I have attended were all that type.

I went ahead and decided to go to Frontier in Lincoln. They are ordering the parts and should have them in shortly. Thanks for your help.
On a side note who in the hell keeps out bidding me on ebay for bike parts? I am a poor 21 year old who needs them at a cheap price and all you rich guys keep out bidding me...ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Phat,
What's your ebay id name? On ebay I'll either bid early with my max price (got one pending right now) and if someone outbids me I just say fine if they want it more than me. Other stuff I'll just stake out and snipe off during the final minutes, sometimes arcade style, sometimes one clear shot to snag it. Just depends on what it is and how active the action is. Nothing personal. Don't think I've grabbed anything from your grasp.
There is a somewhat unwritten community respect rule that if you recognize someone bidding you either bow out or contact them via email and compare notes to see how deep they're willing to go and how bad you both want it.
Keep pinging, prety soon you'll get that super deal. Set your max price, and keep your search engine hummin'.

Some of the e-bay stuff I have bought has been through last minute bids. I have never had much luck on the setting max price early.

What are you looking for, chances are someone here has it kicking around their garage, check out the classifieds or post it in wanted.

I use Phatkidwit1eye on everything since it's pretty original. So if you see me bidding on something you want just let me know. I am looking right know for the rear inner fender and if i can find it cheap the rear sub-frame off an x1. Also the rear part that holds the license plate, cause i want to attempt to do a fender eliminator on but would like to have a back up in case I butcher it.
