So the weather has finally gotten ok. Time constraints relaxed. Riding buddies free. Time is right for a blast on the KTM. All is set for a 0800 pull out on Sat morning. Trailer on and bikes loaded, gear stored. Wife away doing her spinning thing...oops better go check the water and food for the furry little friends in the cellar. Big mistake.
When all is looking good, you know what is going to happen.
So I'm clomping down the stairs in Dirt riding gear, and Alpine Stars...but...
There is an odd smell in the basement. Like a garage where you were running a bike for a while with the doors closed....hummmm...
I look at my old 1952 vintage tried and true furnace, its oddly off, and then I see most likely 10 to 15 gallons of rusty water on the floor.
I look in the little window in the front of the boiler, stone cold, and it looks like a shower in there! Power off. water off.
I see it all slipping away now...
At least the photo cell fuel cut off switch worked, otherwise I'd have fuel oil added in with the water.
All the radiators and pipes in the house are still draining on the floor with no way to stop it through the shattered cast iron boiler.
It is now 0815.
You know you have to have priorities. But man...we were going DIRT BIKE RIDING!
And now I really NEED a ride!
So I phone my buddies while waiting for the service guy to show. One says..
'Hey did'nt you use that excuse at work?'
"Yeah, that was a WORK excuse!"....Cr#p...
So bottom line is busted boiler.
About $5K + -.
And no heat or hot water till Tuesday.
Guess it could be worse, at least it's not January...but then the dirt ride would not have gotten canceled...
