In NC they can get you for DUI if your "drunk" and have car keys on your possesion walking toward your car. I knew a girl who was drunk and driving. She pulled off the road to the side. Took the key out of the igntion. She passed out. She got a DUI charge. | ||

What people who got busted should do is. Follow the arresting officer and the DA. Follow them on the weekends, 4th of July, New Years. Then video tape them "drunk in public" and make a citizen arrest. Alot of people drink so chances are they do. | ||

Yeah, things are getting outta hand.... the People need to stand up, and do something... How about making a law about "distracted driving"...there are 2 states that have laws against driving while holding a cell phone.. cover all the bases.. The NHSTA, has done tests showing that distracted drivers are just as, if not MORE dangerous than someone driving at or just above the legal limit.. And this in Texas of all places... I bet they are having a field day in Corpus and Ingleside..where the Naval bases are... I have 3 words... Catch me A****le!!!! Chase | ||

My take on it is..... Just enforcing an existing law at this time. I would wager that most(if not all) states/ municipalities have laws on Public Intoxication. Just think, If they keep at it long enuff they will need a Drunk Court. Don't confuse a Drunk Court with a drunk Court  | ||

Isn't Texas were the President got 2 DUI's at? Not bashing ole Shrub. But it's kinda hyprocrite. I wonder how many politcal dinner parties get busted? NONE. They pick on the average middle working class American. Who can't afford to miss a days work much less pay for a DUI lawyer. So they plead guilty, despite if they are guilty or NOT. | ||

Seriously though, if that was tried here in France there'd be rioting in the streets; they don't need much of an excuse here. Theoretically it's illegal to smoke in bars here as they're public places, but everybody does. All the rail stations have no smoking signs stuck up at regular intervals; & equally regularly between them you'll find ash trays. The French have a civilised approach to legislation; if it's reasonable it's accepted, if it's unreasonable it's protested until changed, or ignored! | ||

Costa Rican coffee is better. But the Ticos could try to have better food though. Regardless of what GWB now calls his home state, this practice is ludicrous at best. But many times governments will pull some stunt like this to raise revenue and they'll keep doing it until someone with sufficient resources fights it. Once that happens it may stop (if only for a short while). But many 'working stiffs' would plead guilty to a lesser charge and (here's the key) pay a fine rather than spend major $$$ and time to fight such an injustice. And were I on a jury, no way would I vote to convict someone of PI if they were sitting on a bar stool when arrested. | ||

Cops in Cedar Park/Williamson County Texas have been doing this for years...bastardos! Seems to me that bars are private property and police should only be there if there if there has been a complaint made. Big Brother is way, WAY over the line in so many ways these days...I'll second the www.lp.org post. I think they're the only hope for continued freedom in this country. This is why there are jury trials. The jury -- normal people. Have the place so they can choose if the person needs to be guilty of a crime or if the law needs to be used to punish that person. By the "law" he broke the law. But the "law" is the one who PROFITS $$$$ from it. So the "people aka Jury" can say not guilty. Since drinking in a bar is OK. These Judges and DA have goals they are after. They could care less about right or wrong. Or who gets punished. | ||

i live in tx..and often times the guy checking I.D.'s at the front door is a local cop. they do work like this on the side.. i understand what they are saying about trying to cut down on drinking and driving,but come on now.. maybe they should sit at the exit of the parking lot and have a "d.u.i. checkpoint" Who's to say the drunken fool in the bar doesnt have a designated driver????? I've never heard of this situation happening with any of the police here, but it wouldnt surprise me.. | ||

How would this work in a "private club" or a place like the moose lodge or american legion post where it is not open to the public and you have to be a member to even enter? |
