Just to let the record straight...I'm not bitchin' about anything.

...and I don't think enough people get killed skydiving for anyone to care If people started dropping out of the sky onto people's property it'd be a different story!

I'm sure there's plenty of others who commute/travel on a bike. I think it's predominantly the yuppie weekend riders that are giving bikes the toy image.

Oh well.

Enough with the damn politics.

It's been raining here a lot lately. Fun to see how long you can spin the rear tire through the first 3 gears.

Hallelujah Brother! I explain to everyone I know that my Buell gets up to 63 mpg (routinly 50+). For me that means I can go to and from work for a WEEK ON A GALLON OF GAS! Take that OPEC!

If gas was to go up to $5 a gallon, the true believers would come out of the woodwork and be born-again into the world of two wheels.

The insurance company has dubbed motorcycles toys. Hence me not being able to get a 2 vehicle discount on my policy. Bikes aren't taken seriously by those with the power which is why we need to act responsibly in everyone's eyes. How one riders acts reflects on the rest of the community, good or bad. Unfortunately the bad is what gets noticed most or all the time. And it affects us all. See the BIG picture.

Chainsaw...

I agree with you totally. However, when the bleeding liberals toss in the car pooling, smog emissions and noise pollution arguments in with all the other anti-motorcycle stuff (Up Yours Jill Clayborn) they still are on the winning side.

Bomber used the example of 25% of the population still smoking. I wonder what percent rides motorcycles on the street? Dirt bikes excluded as are ATV's as the Fed and State Governments have already taken away most of their limited riding areas.

X1Glider:
State Farm gives me a 2 bike discount. As for the big picture: cars kill 40,000+ people a year. Haven't banned them yet. Hell, you can commit murder/vehicular homicide/aggravted assault with a car and not even LOSE YOUR LICENSE! Kill someone with a car, you may serve 18 months of PROBATION. (as long as your not drunk). Cars are dangerous, and must be stopped, in our lifetime! ;)

(coming from a guy with TWO near death experiences today on his XB, both involving blind, elderly cagers!)

Well, there was the instance where a particular Tennessee Senator was full on blasted and killed a biker. He got away scot free until the AMA pushed it. Guess even that didn't bring the man to justice.

Yeah, your are right. Nothing worse than an unpaid political announcement. Guess it all comes with accrued knowledge and experience. In the interim, you just have to read and think.

Hey, next summer let's ride the radar patrolled off road trials in Wisconsin...If we can find any still open to motorcycles. LMAO

I just know what I know and don't care what you think!

nothing wrong with being highly opinionated; as long as I can rationalize it in my own head

How about we ban all the larger passenger vehicles?...SUV's, full size vans and trucks...'cause they're the most dangerous.

That emissions argument adds some seriously skewed data as well. Anyone who believes it is truly STUPID. Lemme see...how many V-8 trucks and SUV's do you see daily?...how many supposedly high emissions motorcycles?...many of which get better mileage than your typical compact car.

Rick_A...

Don't take the teasing personally, it will drive you up the wall. Trust me, we appreciate your posts as they remind some of us of ourselves in a previous life form. LOL

Concerning the EPA, just remember they get most of their ideas from the California Air Resources Board, AKA, CARB.

Now in reference to your comment about SUV's, Vans, Pick Up Trucks, etc., you may want to check out what The Peoples Republic of California is planning to take them away (economically) from the Soccer Mom's and the rest of non-commercial users in the State. In essence, they are a few steps ahead of you through TAXATION. Looks like another right of Freedom is down the tubes thanks to the Bleeding Liberals.

Way to go Nevco 1

Just watch the fuzzy math.
SUV with load of kids 10 MPG
Bike with 1 on board 50 MPG
You do the math???????

I leave the math to Blake. He seems to have an affinity for it.

However, We Buellers often overlook one major benefit to our bikes and that is that the majority of us do get 50 MPG. The competition should be so lucky, eh?

Let's test the anonymath before he/she gets exposed:

SUV with seating for 5 at 10mpg
Motorcycle with seating for 2 at 50 mpg
5 x 10 = 50, 2 x 50 = 100, bike wins that game.
You have to carry 10 people in the SUV before you equal two on the bike. And if the seating capacity of the SUV is set up that way then you can realistically add a sidecar built for two onto the bike and have the bike carry 4 people, at which point the SUV would have to become a bus to equate in the game.

Wait, I'm not sure who's side anony is on now.

Considering Soccer Mom's tend to fill up the vehicle whereas most commuters don't and most bikes over 651cc get less than 50 MPG...I would venture a guess that it is a moot point.

However, the Tax angle appears to be most discriminatory to the folks that need the larger capacity vehicles the most and many of which voted for the current CA government. Hmmm...is that like shooting yourself in the foot.

I guess the soccer mom could wear a full-face helmet and drown out the kid's screaming then.

I'm thinking riding solo is the best way to go in most cases.

Anony...Oh, what a perfect point you have made. Am so glad the kids now have their own and I don't have to put up with the noise anymore. Of interest, that is why the wife always had the big car and I only buy two-seaters. Suppose, I will be the next target for the Socialists, eh?

When I take over and become Grand Omnipotent Dictator, SUVs will be declared illegal (4WD available to those who use them), mini vans will become mini, left lane bandits will be summarily executed, and bikers will have right-of-way everywhere
