Finally got around to pulling the codes....
13= 02 sensor....14=Engine Temp Sensor...16=Battery Votage...
Bike wouldn't start. Pulled plugs..both were wet.
Sounded like one cylinder tried to fire slightly...hooked up the trickle charger. Failed to check for spark, had things to do.
Anyway are these three codes present in a nNo start situattion or are they indicitive of NO start Problem. I guess I'm asking if these codes are transient..or soft codes that will clear after numerous cranks...I'm thinking they are..somebody please set me straight...
Thanks...Jeff

Jeff,

Those codes themselves do not suggest that the bike should not start. These (13,14) are sensors that have a "limp home" mode in the ECM (the battery (16) is just an unexpected reading, not a performance sensor). The crank position sensor is the only sensor that will not allow starting and/or running when failed. DDFI runs in open loop mode at startup, I know the O2 is out of the loop at startup, I don't know if the ETS is.

Do you recall the check engine light lighting while riding recently? I have had 13 & 14, but only when riding and due to my failures not the DDFI. I have received 16, but only on starting after cranking several times for longer than usual.

Do you have a service manual? Follow the flow charts and you will find your problem. If not, start with a good charged battery, fuel flow (you seem to have that) & spark.

Is it cold where you are? My bike likes a bit of starting fluid below 30 degrees or so, followed by a bit more throttle until it warms up.

Do your gauges show all of the information they usually do? I had a ground at the main chassis point under the seat and I could crank all day but no starting. My gauges did not show the odometer reading when this happened. Check that ground point, under the left side of the seat.

Also, the codes will erase after 50 start & run cycles if not reset during that time. Run cycle is start and run for 30+ seconds.

Let us know how it goes.

Jeff

Jeff,

Filling out a bit more of your profile will help when it comes to helping out also.

A while back you replied to my post concerning codes on a no start X-1.
I have spark and fuel...The bike has the Factory race kit..header,intake and ecm. I pulled the ecm today and plugged in the stock ecm I have. Still no start. I do have the correct odometer reading along with the red oil prelube pump light and also the green neutral. I have No manual and the local Buell dealer has none on hand. If you would check the flow chart for me I would appreciate it very much. The bike has exhibited quirky running now and then..it would not rev freely..I could hold the gas open wide and some times it would clear up. Riding along it would start bucking and losing momentum ,sounding like it was only firing one cylinder. The gas tank vent is OK.
I checked all the fuses and also swapped the two relays in the fuse box to see if that helped,it did not. I just put on the factory performance plug wires and have some Blast plugs if I need new ones...but the plugs were just replaced. Is the crank sensor located on the right side uunder the ignition plate? I recalll that this sensor is spose to be the only one which would cause a no start failure...
Thanks

Get a manual from somewhere and start troubleshooting. It's usually near impossible to help without being able to methodically analyze the problem. Electrical problems are a bitch.
