I know that this was an older subject but I just read the notes. I am the new Director for the Woodstock, NY Hog Chapter, and although I do own 2 Harleys - my Buell is my primary ride since purchase of it in 2001. The former Director also owns a Buell but only rode it once or twice to club rides.
I take it to a different level. Bright Orange Joe Rocket Jackets, full face helmets, colored gloves, and the rest of the riding gear. What no black leather vests with HOG "colors" you say. Yes I have them, but not with my Buell. To tell you the truth, not much with my Harleys either. I'd rather be seen and have safe gear than look "cool". It's amazing how all these HOG riders talk about how riding there Harley's help them get that feeling of individualism, yet they all dress alike wearing what the Motor Co. shows them in the H-D catalogs. Thats thinking for ones self.
I can tell you that almost most of the Chapter does not want to hear about any Buell/Brag rides and do not really care for the whole buell thing anyway, but oh well. Since I do not have a Brag Chapter to join, this is my choice. Granted there are some great people in the club and I have many friends from it, but one can get real tired of that Ride to Eat life style. I will try to push the Ride to Ride approach. It mat shock their system - change can be good.

Pete,

You have to join a local HOG Chapter in order to take part in their events if not you do have to pay the non-member fee. Of course you have a National BRAG Membership which would let you join the HOG Group for their annual fee if you want. When I was investigating into the BRAG/HOG thing HOG Canada advised they are basically the same now. You can also be a member of both the local BRAG and HOG groups.

There is no Buell Retailer here in Newfoundland to sponsor a BRAG Group (also being the only Buell for 800km it would be lonely group) so I joined the HOG Group, only about 3 or 4 members out of 90 objected to my being the Director of the Newfoundland Chapter but that was quickly straightened out. Funny how those 3 or 4 are also posers, when we stop I am the one who usually attracts the most attention with the S1 than some of the Harleys.

Gomo,

I don't own a Harley at all and am still the HOG Director. I also do not dress in leathers and I am having a hard time deciding where to put my HOG and BRAG Crests/Patches on my Black Joe Rocket Riding Gear, I also wear a full face helmet, proper riding boots and gloves. I am a Newfoundland Safety Council Motorcycle Training Instructor and have to practice what I preach. Most of the guys in the group tease me for dressing the way I do but I really do not want to take a trip down the "100 foot cheese grater at 100kph" with no protection. Thats what a friend of mine calls pavement - he is an emergency room doctor and has seen the effects of asphalt-vs-skin.
