Rick,
Good picks. In a more modern vein, go to http://mad-ducati.com/ and check out "Mike C's new Toy".

Best,
Feathered

Ahh - the Imperial Fleet - A custom Kosman Sport tourer powered by Mercury, a Black XB9R - Nallinized with Kosco Body work, and finally a 720cc Nallinized Blast - all with Baker 6 speeds and fully adjustable suspensions. A modest wish list! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

One less to put on your wishlist:

From motorcyclenews.com

WE all loved Aprilia’s café Racer Blue Marlin when it was shown last year… but the Italian firm has binned plans to put it into production.

Aprilia’s engineers have been forced to give up their uphill battle to make the machine into a runner.

According to Aprilia insiders, the biggest problem was the Marlin’s tiny proportions – themselves the key to its stunning looks. While the engine was taken directly from the RSV, and as such should have made 130bhp, it proved impossible to fit a decent-sized airbox under the Blue Marlin’s slimline fuel tank. And without the big airbox of the RSV, the engine’s performance dropped massively – giving the Blue Marlin just 80bhp, a figure considered far too low for a production version of the bike.

Thank god not every company declares bikes that produce under 80 hp unfit for production...

Laugh with me here for a moment.....when I look at my list, I am reminded how "illogical" the hobby of motorcycling is and how perpetually "stuck in the 60's" I am.

I used to, at the age of about 10, take a city bus to the Honda shop and lust after the S65 and later the S90.

When the CL77 came out the bike screamed at me...I was in love. Something about those upswept pipes and the gray and red color scheme.

During this time, I was being treated to daily rides, weather permitting, on Wally Kilker's Cushman 711 Highlander. I still own that one.

A couple years later, just as the hormones began to show up, do did Mike Dutton's BSA 441 Victor. Dutton was the "rich kid" on the block, he drove a BRG MG-B, was the quarterback and generally had about 3 leggy cheerleaders in the front yard sipping 7oz bottle of Coca-Cola.

To this day, I consider this to be the incarnation of what's, simultaneously right and wrong about motorcycling.

The "logical" part of me knows the BSA 441 Victor was one of the worst motorcycles ever made, nearly impossible to maintain. The part of me that gets excited about females however, still stirs when I see that Chrome and Yellow tank. Go figure.

My "Buell thing" is fairly well documented, I'll skip that.

Among my list would be two Hondas, including the CB400F and the NT650 Hawk. Both bikes that have yet to be matched in terms of doing what they do without equal. After having my torquey Buell spoiled butt placed on a 13,000RPM winding CB on Angeles Crest, did I get FORCED to THINK when riding. The Hawk is, well, just THE HAWK. Like thw S-1 Lightning, a bike killed long before it should have been.

Current stuff?

I've got a MAJOR thing threatening to go out of control for the XB9S Lightning. Buell, as confirmed by every magazine that's gotten a hand on this thing, has a Home Run on their hands. Bitch if you want, but the bike is an appropriate mix of power and handling and the quality is world class.

The F650 in the basement is a great city bike given it's torque (look in the back of your cycle mags and you'll find a little secret of mine...the F650 and the XB9 are seperated by a mere 0.04 seconds in the roll on test)and MASSIVE luggage capacity.

Hmmm....I never loose the "Twin his and her's Monster's" deal.

The KTM Duke was a contender until someone went and made it so butt ugly. It''s been replaced by an ala Road Thing XR600 Steet Super Motard.

My buddies MH900e strikes a major chord, but I'm not sure if it moves beyond art to reach the "gotta have" level.

High on the "if this thing only made economic sense" is the BMW R1150GS, arguably one of the most versatile bikes EVER made. The torque of a Buell and a seriously fast (I doubt few folks here can ride an R1 faster) motorcycle. Please note that any story you ever read about "I circled the globe on a bike" features either a GS or a KLR.

The Vespa scooter stays on the list..

Geeesh...I hav to get back to writing....I could go on all day.

Yep...they were $0.03 in the machine and I paid $0.199 for gas as Skelly.

Oh well :)

Logic defies me when it comes to motorcycles.

This is why I own a Buell!

And when I look at that list of mine, reality tells me if ever I was fortunate again I'd have the Brutale in a heart beat, but I don't see MV getting their act together, which leaves the illogical logical (or is that logical illogical?) choice of the XB9S.

Last winter there was a 1970 441 Victor, STILL IN THE CRATE! on ebay. I wanted it for my living room as art, but thought it would be a sin to uncrate it. What is it about those things?

I am thinking seriously about that Rocky Mountain cycle offer, to add to the BMW K1200RS in the garage. My favorite is my S2 ready to go LSR racing. Technically it is street legal and has both license and insurance. With the 8500 rpm heads on it and only 12.5 compression it will throw you off the back if you aren't real serious.
The amount of parts and breakage we had last summer trying to make it turn 10,000 rpm reliably would make a grown man cry, well me anyway.

Buells are unique and special in ways other brands hope to get to. In my view, the ultimate niche vehicle.

Happy Holidays to all

Paul see you in sept. on the salt
