I WAS WANTING TO PICK EVERYONES BRAIN HERE. MY BUELL (2001 X1)WAS RUNNING FINE THIS AFTERNOON, THEN WHEN I WENT TO GO FOR MY NIGHT TIME RIDE, IT WAS OKAY FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES, I LEANED INTO THE THROTTLE, AND NOW IT IS MISSFIRING BADLY ABOVE 3500 RPM, WITH NO POWER. THERE IS NO ENGINE LIGHT ON, I SWITCHED ECM'S BACK TO STOCK, AND NOTHING. IT ALSO SEEMS TO HAVE A ODD BURNING TYPE SMELL, BUT I CANNOT PINPOINT IT. I WAS THINKING THE WORST (BAD VALVE/SPRING-ETC), BUT I AM HOPING FOR SOMETHING SIMPLER/COMMON. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS- MIKE | ||

Good one, Blake. Mzoo: Most likely a failed sensor (ET or 02). Take it to a dealer so they can extract the trouble code(s) from the ECM. | ||

Apex1: I got home today and started to work on it. The first thing I did was pull the plugs, and both electrodes were collapsed! So it's off to the store to buy some new ones, but first I have to figure out how that happened. Thanks Mike. p.s.- hey look ma, not all caps! | ||

The electrodes on the plugs were collapsed? You might check piston/plug clearance before you try that again. | ||

Check your plug numbers. Are they Buell plugs or NGK or another brand. They might be the same thread size but may be a longer thread and may have came in contact with the piston. Or the previous owner just really sucked at plug gappin  | ||
