2003 Ralph Wayne's Annual Vintage Backyard Nationals.

This was my first visit to this unique Kansas City Tradition. Ralph Wayne has hosted and his neighbors have tolerated this event for over a decade (I think). Hundreds of motorcycles and easily a thousand people converge on Ralph's backyard to great motorcycles of every flavor and age.

Buell was well represented as we are sending one of our own off to Atlanta GA in the coming weeks, and the Backyard Nationals gave us the perfect reason to get together.

Dave Tripp, you will be missed.

Ralph's personal Sturgis

Ralph's Personal Sturgis. This picture was taken at about 1pm. The crowd gets much larger as the day goes on.

A Pack of Buells

With all of these Buells in one place, you know there is a bored state trooper somewhere.

The Bad Seeds

Clearly these are men of questionable moral integrity.

From l to r Jeff, Bill, Dave "I can't wait to move to Atlanta where I will be three hours from Deal's Gap at all times" Tripp in the burgandy helmet aka "Tripper".

Shazam and company

Here we see Shazam just before he performs a block long power wheelie for the amusement of the crowd.

Immediately afterward, mothers were seen ushering their young daughters into their houses. Meanwhile, the young neighborhood boys were seen performing wheelies on bicycles for the remainder of the afternoon.

Shazam, don't you know you are supposed to be a role model?

Dave Tripp and company

Here we find Dave Tripp and Reggie (I apologize for not remembering the names of the other two gentlemen). Clearly these men are trying to blend into the crowd disguised as tourists (notice the cameras and innocent looking smiles).

The reality is that these men are wanted in several states for acts of unmitigated hooliganism. Check the walls of your post office frequently for more details.

Ariel Square 4

I posted this picture just for me. I thought it was the most attractive vintage bike at the event.

It is a 1956 Ariel Square Four. Something about those pipes just gets me.

That's all of the Buell pics. It was great to see everyone there. You guys made a hell of an entrance.

Dave, we need to ride again before you leave.

Best wishes,

Charles

You don't have to post just Buell pics. We'll drool over pretty much anything, especially vintage iron.
Keep 'em coming!

Too bad I already had plans. Looks like fun.
