WE HAVE IGNITION!!

It's now officially no longer a "Not-run", I fired it up in the garage this evening. Too nasty and wet to even ride around the block, but it sounds BA-AA-AD!

Now I've got to air the exhaust fumes out of the house before Mrs_Thing returns from stimulating the economy. Should've opened the garage doors.

At least I didn't super-glue the dog to china cabinet like SOME guys we know...

Congratulations and I can't wait to see that baby!

My advise: Call Ms. Thing and tell her that her credit limits just be elevated and to immediately return to the Galleria!

Good work !

Why is this man smiling?

live norton!

Because, if this picture had sound, you'd be hearing the Norton actually running!

You can't hear the sound, but you can see why I'm not riding...it's a little damp for me today!

I had two Nortons. I really liked them. Thats why I have a Buell. It reminded me of them except better in every way. That's a beauty.

kcbill, you're right--there's a lot of similarities between the '70's Nortons and the '90's Buells:

1) Big old torquey motor left over from a bygone era,

2) Rubber mounted to control vibration that comes from being enlarged beyond their designers' original intentions, and

3) Set up in a chassis with state of the art componentry and world class handling, for their respective eras.

Besides, they both look and sound cool!

Found this Domi advertised for 3.500 Dollars on a Dutch classified site.

Not too bad, eh? Should run fairly well and be original/complete.
Would make a great base for a Domiracer in roadtrim!

Nope, haven't got the wedge right now... :(

OK, I'm officially stoked, I actually RODE the Norton today! The motor feels strong, it didn't make any puddles, it shifts, turns and stops, and nothing fell off!

Damn, I'm good...

Had to 86 the clip-ons, though, it took me about 1 mile to realize that they weren't gonna be compatible with my "stately" riding style.

More pix will, undoubtedly, follow.

Great to hear, RT! Evaluating Your mechanical skills the motor must be OK.

However, without the constant carrying around of some spanners, things will definately fall off. As needs to be with a Norton; that's what one calls character!

Here's the latest pics of the Norton. I nixed the clip-ons and put the gauges on. It's a one-kick starter!

And here's a couple of shots of the new Monster, my Italian S1! Took it and cash for the Confederate. This thing's a lot of fun, it rides and handles like an S1, but has a better top-end charge. Gotta slip the clutch to launch it, though...

Absolutely gorgeous Norton. Makes my bike (below) look like poo, which ain't easy IMOHO. (although my photography skills don't exactly help either... :P )

Although i gotta wonder: If 60's-70's Britbikes are still so popular with everybody, why was mine such a showroom anchor???

My old Honda 450T and 500T resemble the old Brit Bikes, I would say thats what Honda were trying to copy back then.

I should try to put some time into them to finish one and turn the other into something like the "Road Thing"

Excellent Job - I now have some inspiration.

What kind of pipe is on the Thing ?

Nice anecdote;

One of these Commando's got me into biking. There was this guy, Eric, living in my home town Leiden. He rode a 750 Norton, must have been a Fastback in retrospect.

I saw it one night standing in the mainstreet, soaked in oil, being its own black self. Me and a friend of mine were gasping at such an awesome beauty, I must have been 14 YO.
So out comes its owner, kicking the bike to life... Oooaaah, that sound! Then I knew I had to have one of those some day.

Still hasn't happened. I'd rather go the Domi or Atlas way, honesty commands me to say.
Be nice fetching one of those and transforming it into a nice boyracer!

Unity Equipe in England sells parts for these kinda bikes, check them out!

www.unityequipe.com

PS. Meeting it's owner ten years later didn't really add up to the image I had in mind;
He told me he didn't ride it anymore but had plans to start working on the bike "real soon". His Norton would be the first Norton to crack 175 mph!
Bought him a beer and got outta there...

Road Thing
I always laugh when i read your web name.
About 5 years ago a fellow worker and myself were doing a boundary survey and when i went to the center of a bridge on the state hiway to sledge a railroad spike into the calculated corner,i stopped in my tracks. It was a "thing" in the road, right where i had to chalkline, measure, and set the spike layed a rubber d---o.I kept waiting for the semis to blow it away, but even by the end of the day,the roadthing was still there,so i just pounded in a little masonry nail and got the hell outa there.

Jrh,
If I'm not mistaken, something about...once it's out there, it's out there to stay (kinda like the "thing";)).

Gotta admit, I thought it was funny, but your story leaves me wondering about a few things...

First, why did that particular piece of hardware get you so sketchy? I mean you coulda just place kicked the "thing" and let it swim with the fishy's.

Second, you said you set out to sledge in a railroad spike. But in the end you drove in a little masonry nail. So, did you drive the nail through the "thing" to keep it in place and use "it" for the boundry marker?

Inquring minds want to know.

Jrh: No apology necessary! I got a chuckle out of the story. I'm reminded of a co-worker many years back who was taking flak in the office because he had a rather large butt. His timeless response:

"Ya can't drive spikes with a tack-hammer!
