WOW! So far between this site and Sac Borg I have a total of about 53 people for SPLASH.

Kim: Frick (Shane), Frack (Chris). We got to find out if they are coming this year, what a hoot they were last year. Except this year we will tell them what rooms we "are not" in! Ya!

Frick & Frack - I hope they come, I have some pictures for them..... And yes I agree, with how late they stayed up last year drinking outside our room and reminiscing I think about their crazy childhood - it would be best if they didn't know where we were staying! Damn they sure can drink! And to think they were ready to roll the next morning. (they were very nice - I enjoyed hearing their stories - but during the day light hours).

Let us know how your hand is doing. Are you going to be good to go for SPLASH?

I had a phone # to call to see about the park for Fridays BBQ and Chris says it's the # to some truck place. I will see if I can find another #.

Ferris, I posted in the NW section about my hand. Not good. I am so bummed. Surgery will be done on Friday.

Kim, maybe Gootch knows how to get ahold of Frick and Frack, I'll shoot him an e-mail this weekend maybe.

Bummed in the Southern Rain Forest.....

Loni

PS Do you know how slow posting is going to be after Friday? YUK!

Well, I just got talked to a lady from the city of Woodland and she told me that unless we wanted to rent the covered area at the park (which we don't) we do not need any permits to use the park. I even mentioned that there might be 50 to 70 people. So thats good news. 4 months to go!

I also talked with Shauna at the Crest Lodge and they still have 3 single rooms, and 2 double rooms. Call if you have not made your reservation, 1.800.477.5339, be sure to tell them you are with the SPLASH EVENT or they will tell you they have no rooms available.

the last time i organized a SPLASH ride, the Woodland PD seemed particularly interested in the exact route we were taking up to St. Helens on Saturday morning. (i had visited them ahead of time to let them know we'd have a bunch of bikes that sounded like Harleys converging on their small town and please don't freak out...)

of course, i told them we were taking the "direct" route, up Highway 503, when in fact we took several sets of rather more interesting back roads to achieve our goal.

my nose grew a little as a result, but i could still snap my faceshield closed afterwards so no big deal.

Corso's right: you'd have to pay them to take me, and i doubt your account has sufficient funds.

The time is drawing nearer and people should be making plans and firming things up.

I can't wait...just mounted a ventura rack on my bike tonight, and got some working saddlebags.

Any details on the mckenzie bridge night, Ferris? I'd like to make reservations for somewhere for that night. After camping all weekend at LS and Pauls place, I'm gonna want a hotel for that night.

And anyone know of a nice hotel near the Fort Bragg stop?

Al

Al, i'll be scouting Caspar and Fort Bragg on Sunday, stay tuned. sorry i'm so slow with McKenzie Bridge info, stay tuned. anyone in NorCal who wants to and can, i'll be departing Eureka to the south bright and early Sunday morning on the VFR (yum, hwys 101 and 1 on a sportbike...), would love some like-minded company.

best to reach me on my cell, 760/379-7883.

ok, at much great personal sacrifice (Lake Isabella to Eureka on Friday, on the VFRipper, 630+ miles, and Eureka back to Lake Isabella yesterday, on the now tastefully bug-bedecked VFRipper, 680+ miles, on some of the bitchin'est roads on this great green earth) i have news.

the chunk of blacktop from Ft. Bragg to Leggett is nothing less than sublime. the pavement is PERFECT (once you start the climb up away from the ocean, anyway, and prior to that it’s a little worn but breathtaking nonetheless) with not a bump, ripple, tar snake, or straight-away to spoil the fun. geez-o-pete, what a frikkin' work of art! i left home with a functional front tire, but this amazing, freshly-paved, well-seasoned piece of road turned it into a quivering rag.

so, lodging options in Caspar on Monday night should the deal at Dana's fall thru? none.

Mendocino, 4 miles to the south of Caspar? ok if you wanna spend $300 a night at Buffy's Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous B&B (which would indeed be cool, as Mendocino is a gorgeous piece of real estate and all, but...)

Ft. Bragg is the place, then, only 4 miles north of Caspar, and plenty of places to call home for the night.

my advice for anyone doing this part of 4-Play would be to make reservations now in Ft. Bragg, in case Dana's is out or in case you don't wanna camp overnight at his place in the first place -- Ft. Bragg is only about a 5-minute ride away.

i spent an hour yesterday scoping out places to stay in and around F.B. (hey, catchy initials!), and my pick would be the Tradewinds Lodge, at 400 S. Main St., Fort Bragg, CA 95437, on the east side of Hwy 101 and only 2 miles north of the Hwy 20/Hwy 1 intersection. Phone numbers: 800/524-2244 (in NorCal) or 707/964-4761.

there is on on-site restaurant (TW’s) that looks pretty cool and opens at 5 a.m., and a pool and hot-tub room (open ‘til 10 p.m.) for those needing a refreshing place to get, um, liquored up after a ride day of harding.

room rates run from $79 to $89 a night, which ain’t bad considering. $79 gets 1 king-sized bed in the room, $89 gets 2 queens (beds, you silly), and if’n you’ve got more peeps than that in your party, $120 will get you a room with 3 doubles.

after having checked the lay of the land, my recommendation would be to reserve one of the rooms from #131 through #145, as these are back away from the highway and face the pool. 131-134 are prime, and each have 2 queens. 140 has 1 king, and a Jacuzzi. 141 has 3 doubles. 142 and 143 are 2 queens. 144 and 145 are 3 doubles. 146 and 147 are pet rooms (in case you bring your Tribble???), and 135-137 are 2 queens but kinda tucked in behind the stairs.

all of these are ground floor rooms, should one want to wheel their prized possession inside whilst the management is busy trying to curb all the rampant nudity going on in the pool room.

well.

i must say, there is tougher duty than riding a sweet-running sport bike through the NorCal Redwoods on a crisp, sunny, blue-sky morning. this is God’s Country, and She done darned good.

ride to lean,
