Both of you shotgunners have a right to say what you want. Thank God for that. No harm done here to anyone. It's only a conversation.

I agree, Chop. Sacborg has brought alot of folks together. I did have the pleasure of visiting with the Chop Most Pop a while back at an American Sport Bike Night meeting. It was Vintage Harley Night?? Salt Flat Nights?? Can't remember our venue, but I definitely remember Mr. Chop. A sweet man and really easy to talk to. I am priviledged to have made contact. And it's true, that I came here through SacBorg as well.

However, I am here now because I got tired of the excessive Buell bashing, trolls, and the occassional porno shot. I couldn't say anything good about my Buell without the usual suspects pooping their pants. It just gets old. I still drop a line from time to time, but mostly non-bike related.

I think we've both explained that these two sites of ours are very different.

Rock on!

Chop,

I only knew your father for those few days at Bonneville. It was very plain to see that he was very proud of you and truly enjoyed being with you and sharing that experience. Think of him every year we go. He was a truly special person.

Chop,

Hey dude, the point is that if you see fit to visit and commence to pooing on an upbeat pro-Buell Kool-Aid drenched thread, ya darn well better expect others git after ya for doing so. See how that works? See what ya gotta understand is that it works both ways. And round these parts my friend, the Buell naysayer will always be so vastly outnumbered, the prospect of pooing on pro-Buell threads is really kinda silly. You will get beat up for it. And predictably one so wounded inevitably resorts to personal attack. Sad state that. Pretty sure you are learning that for your own self.

Frankly I'm still of the opinion that belittling any motorcycle is silly. I prefer to focus on the positive.

On the one point specifically, particularly with me being a professional actively engaged in engineering type pursuits, well I took mucho offense at your glib pronouncement concerning the ZTL brake/wheel system as being "engineering for engineering's sake.

That was without a doubt one of the most ignorant characterizations ever of what is truly a huge innovative advancement in motorcycle technology.

phew -- I learn so much good stuff on this board -- the proer design of squish bands, how to check various and sundry elektrikal bits to see if the majik smokes some out, the new definition of PC, the fact that two (or more) guys can have an argument while shouting exactly the same things at one another --

lucky bomber, indeed!

I haven't been on Badweb much lately, working 12 hr. shifts, going to school at night and raising three kids kinda takes up ALL my time lately.

But, I'm on vacation right now (only because I'm not doing duty at Bonneville). I had already requested the time off to go racing, but figured what the heck when World Finals got cancelled.

What does all that have to do with this thread?

Well, when I see a thread with something like eight pages in only a few days I figured "wow, I must be missing something" so I came here first.

Quickly discover I'm not missing much (here at this thread anyway), but then I'm surprised as heck to see my name mentioned.

Wow.

So, there are two things I would like to say.

One: Blake, thank you for the very kind compliment. When I do get free time to roam, I always come here first. You run a class board that I enjoy. While I have had the good fortune to meet many of the people here, there are many more I haven't, but I still feel I know most all of those who post. Personality does come through when you have read many posts by the same people.

Two: Tramp, all I have to say is, look at what raising you has done to your poor mother. Try as she may, she can't even reach the handlebars anymore! After all she's done for you, the least you could do is get her some moccasins so she doesn't have to keep wrapping tape on her feet.

Three: Spidy, for a minute there I thought you had a bright future as a budding artist, only to find out it's a google hit (sigh).

Oh well, I guess now we will never know what kind of bike it is they are burning.

You've got to. If not, all your energy is consumed, the wheels turned and damned if you aren't in the same place.

There are a group of folks, this very instantaneous, who are obsessively focused on the light, the future and changing it.

Times have never been better.

Well....except for my budding career as a jazz guitarist. I am taking tons of crap from the rock n' roll set.

so to you, one CANNOT say they prefer one bike over another. To do so would be to belittle the other (whatever brand it may be).

I got it. Check.

you ONLY talk about the positive of any motorcycle.

Thats fine. Good on ya.

Me, if I dont like something, I'll speak up, I'll even go as far as to say...

Choptop... every time one of these devisive threads starts to go positive, you jump back in and stir *&^% up again and try and drive people apart.

To quote Spiderman (the movie character, not our local poster: ) )... "With great gifts come great responsibilities". I see the depth of your gift, and the skill with which you wield the scalpel. The thought that keeps coming back to me is "what a waste".

now Blake has stepped in and started slinging shite...
" be positive or its ok for others to personally attack you, but everyone should be positive, but if yer not, we can be negative, but we should be positive.. Does Not Compute, Does Not Compute, ERROR, ERROR...."

XLCR, you are worthy of all the abuse heaped upon you because you like one bike more than another. You deserve what you get from here on out.

Hopefully a Bussa fan will now threated to urinate on your grave and make up false police reports about you.

But it aint gonna be me.

I dont like Busa's all that much either....

oh wait... DAMN, now they are gonna bash me TOO !!!!!

Heck, I'd take a beer over an overblown thread anyday - whether on Sacborg, Badweb, ATC, KBeg, LABusas...

I'm still waiting for a discussion on sportbikes to breakout over on http://www.worldaffairsboard.com/

I'd actually LOVE to have a REAL Hayabusa. The Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa (Peregrine Falcon), known to the allies as 'Oscar' was in the fact the finest dogfighter of WWII, contrary to popular opinion. Most seem to believe it was the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, but the Japanese Army's Ki-43 was in fact smaller and lighter than the Imperial Navy's Zero and could turn inside of it.

The JAAF was in fact obsessed with light weight and simplicity to the point that production of the Ki-43 was delayed while certain diehards tried to insist it be redesigned with fixed landing gear like its predecessor, the Ki-97 'Nate'. Thankfully, they were overruled, as the design suffered from a poor top speed of only around 320 MPH in its early versions and fixed gear would have made it even slower.

The old-school faction did manage to get their way on the subject of armament. The Ki-43 was first equipped with only two .30 cal. machine guns for lightness at a time when the Zero was equipping with those and an additional two 20mm cannon. In comparison its two chief opponents, the Curtiss P-40 and the Bell P-39 were armed with six .50 cal Brownings and four .30 cal and two .50 cal Brownings and a 37mm cannon, respectively.

Clearly, the Ki-43 was outgunned, and later versions moved up to two .50 cal machine guns, but by that time it was still hopelessly insufficient. Nor did its superb manoeuvrability help it much, as the American pilots soon discovered that it was suicide to dogfight either the Zero or the Hayabusa with a P-40 or P-39 and they changed their tactics.

They managed to hold their own against the Japanese fighters by learning from the Germans and flying in the Rotte and the Shwarm formations (now known as the two-plane element and the finger four formations) developed in the Spanish Civil War, and fighting with the diving out of the sun technique which is usually attributed to Claire Channault, General of the Chinese Air Force (Flying Tigers) at the beginning of the war. It was actually developed, however, by the pilots of Baron Manfred Von Richtofhen's Flying Circus in WWI when they were forced to continue flying their Albatross fighters against the much quicker turning Nieuport 'Bebes' and Sopwith Pups. (Beware of the Hun in the sun)

In the end as good as they were the Hayabusa and the Zero suffered from several fatal and interconnected flaws. One was that by the second year of WWII the day of the dogfighter was over. As I already mentioned, new team tactics had made the concept all but obsolete. In order to achieve their high manoeuvrability the Japanese has sacrificed structural strength and armor protection. It only took a few well placed or lucky shots to turn one of their fighters into a fireball. The original idea was that a highly trained pilot could use the plane's superior manoeuvrability to prevail, and Japanese pilots, especially Navy pilots, were some of the best in the world at the beginning of hostilities.

The problem with that was the Japanese quickly ran out of good pilots. Their training system was extremely tough and very exclusive, with only small numbers accepted in the training program and a great many washing out before it was over. This created fine pilots, but not nearly enough of them. The high command obviously had no idea of the tremendous wastage they would suffer in actual combat against the US. This problem was exasperated by the fact the Japanese didn't think of rotating their units and bringing experienced pilots back to the homeland to train new recruits, all things that were standard policy in the USAAF. Instead, most of them stayed at the front until they were killed in action.

With a year of the start of hostilities Japan's cadre of experienced air veterans had been virtually wiped out. Without them their nimble fighters were nothing but fragile targets. Japan had lost air superiority and with it, the war.

The next lesson will be about the world's first work of fiction, the Epic of Gil-Gamish, written in cuniform in Sumaria in around 3000 BC, and its parallels in later Greek mythology and Old Testament accounts of The Flood.

You see, attacking my abilities as a historian is the stupidest possible angle you could have taken. I am in fact a passionate historian who started his studies at about the age of eight. By the time I made high school I was allowed by my history teachers to sleep in class everyday, since I still aced every test and got the best history grades in school.

By the time I made college I was in the habit of verbally correcting my professor's mistakes in class. One would think that wouldn't make me very popular, but in fact, in my second year my professor took maternity leave and she went to the faculty to request that I be given her classes, as she thought I was the best qualified person for the job, this in spite of the fact I had no degree of any kind at the time.

Yes, I know the history of every major motorcycle maker on the planet, even the Japanese ones, every car maker, every airplane company, and every major shipyard. I'm thoroughly familiar with Jane's Fighting Ships. One of my specialties is the strategy, tactics, and technology of war, going back to the Bronze Age. The other specialty is the archeology of the Bronze Age itself.

I also know the political, military, economic, and sociological history of every major nation on the planet and many of the minor ones. I've met guys with PHD's in history that haven't studied it nearly as hard as I have. And what I don't know, I can look up, as I have a comprehensive historical library that includes virtually every book on motorcycle history that's ever been published in English. I've also written most of a history of Harley-Davidson and early American motorcycles that will probably never be published, but I had fun writing it.

Yes, I feel qualified to teach you something about history, and if you don't believe me, I will go right ahead and do so.

oh good, a cut and paste master.

but I guess when you've cant think up any other pschyco stuff to rant about, its best to change the subject.

nice work.

P.S. I never attacked you history "skills". It just seemed a little strange that we were talking about modern bikes, none of which you've ever owned, and all of sudden yer giving some screwed up history of the Sportster, like I didnt know what a K Model was.

I thought that was a little odd.

So , I told you to save the lecture on the history of HD and tell it to the vintage bikes I have sitting in my garage, cuz I already know it.

No, I dont care about your history lesson. If I wanted that I'd go back to school and get the info from someone qualified.

When I want to know about WWII avaition, I talk to the people that flew the planes, but thanks for thowing up some random info anyway.
