Why does my fuel line always leak right at the inlet of the fuel filter? This will be the third time I've had to replace the clamp and thank god every time it's happened I've been in my driveway. Is it possible the fuel line is just crap, or am I not installing the clamp correctly? I don't mean to sound cheap but at $2.95 each for a hose clamp this is getting expensive. Help anyone?

What kind of hose clamp are you using? I don't have an X1 like you, and therefore don't have much fuel pressure to deal with on my bikes, but on cars and trucks with fuel pumps I've always had relatively good success with the worm-screw types of hose clamps. Get the right sized one and they are re-usable many times. It sounds like you are using the pinch type that you then have to cut off. Those are great for assembly lines where you put on the clamp and send the bike down the line never to see it again at your station. But for the rest of us I kind of like reusable clamps. Cost about the same as your $2.95, but recyclable in that you keep getting to use it over and over and over again.

If you tighten them too tight though you will split the rubber of the hose.

I'm using the factory clamp, and have tried the worm style clamps and had no luck with them either, they seem to vibrate loose unless it was a junk clamp. I'm going to replace the fuel hose completely tomorrow with new clamps, just hope it doesn't happen again, I might not be lucky enough to be in my driveway next time.

I've converted most of the clamps on my bike to the screw type hose clamps. Never had one loosen in over 2000 miles.
crosses fingers!

JD,
You've got to be kidding! Have you read about any of the other problems people have had on this board? You'd best trade in your Buell for a Honda Civic immediately if a leaky hose/clamp is too much for you to sort out.

I know that sounds harsh; it was meant to. NO motorcyclist should be so friggin' helpless that they have to ask how to fix a freakin' leaky hose! I would go so far as to say that I would refuse to ride with such a helpless fool. Are you really that stupid, or do you just enjoy the online dialogue?

Bad Bart,
You know, I can take a lot of shit from people before it starts to bug me, but you seem to have made my day.
Helpless fool huh? Take a look at my profile buddy, thats quite an acomplishment for a helpless fool to take upon himself in a small shed.
I'm glad to see that my frustration with something as small as a fuel clamp can bias your whole opinion of my I.Q. and mechanical skills.
BTW, how do I know if you even own, ride, or can even work on a motorcycle with a blank profile.
I would never go as far as calling someone stupid, you obviously don't have many friends or have so called friends that hate to see you pull in the driveway. I know people like you that know everything and everyone else is a dumbass.
It really kills my self esteem that you refuse to ride with me, I always look forward to riding with some egotistical maniac who gets off on putting others down. Please, please take it back, ride with me so you can further tell me everything I cant do as good as you!
You really are the poster boy for the family atmosphere and willing to help attitude of this forum. If I were you I would share with everyone else your opinion of how smart you are and how dumb everyone else is, I'm sure they would appreciate your help.

My Cyclone is not fuel injected, so it's not nearly such a big deal, but I have just been using small cable ties cinched down as tight as I can get them (needle nose pliers or forceps and a screwdriver).

It gets tight enough to leave a permanent mark in the tube...

Don't know if I would trust this for a higher pressure fuel injection system though.

Congratulations Bad Bart.

This forum had been a oasis of decorum in a desert filled with bad manners and inconsideration.

On your way to knowing everything, there must have been a time when you knew nothing.

Jd,

Make sure there are no gouges or heavy scratches on the sealing surface. Use quality high pressure hose and fuel injection clamps. These are sized to each application and can be found in any auto parts store. They are not the worm screw type and are specifically made for high pressure fuel injection systems.

Don't worry about BBart. Attitudes like his are an abberation on this board.

What are the f.i. style of hose clamps like?
I'm picking up a used fuel injected car tonight and will have to run some new gas lines to the tank, so this is a very timely discussion. Never knew there were specific clamps for f.i. lines.
How about that. And thanks.

They are really only necessary for very high pressure applications. Regular hose clamps work fine for low pressure throttle body type injection systems.

They should be available in any auto parts store.

Here's a link that shows a pretty good picture...

Thanks for the advice, those clamps look like they will work good.
As for Bad Bart, I never said that I couldn't fix the leak, I fixed it before but after a couple hundred miles it would leak again. I was seeing if anyone else had this problem and how they had fixed it. If I were you I wouldn't post if you're having problems with something especially if you talk to everyone else like you did me.
I know I shouldn't have to justify any question I ask, but for Bad Bart I felt it was needed.

Thanks everyone

Man don't you love it when you ask a simple question, just wanting to know if others had the same problem. and then the reall jackasses come out and have to give their two cents on how the world revolves around them.. Good for you with not putting up with that non-sense. and good luck with the hose.

Well I got it fixed now!
I drained the tank. Now I can't figure out why it won't start, where's Bad Bart when you need him!

Those clamps seem to be non-existent around here, I've tried three different automotive stores and no one has them.

There's a couple more places to check, hopefully some one will carry them.
