Hi Guys, I am sure this question has been asked a million times before..but I couldn't find a solid yes or no answer by doing a search.

Anyway, I just bought a 97 S1. Bike is awesome..except the tank stickers are BADLY bubbled, and one of the letters is actually missing (leaving a big indent in the tank)

I am the third owner. Bike has 6,000 miles, and the tank was never fixed by any of the previous owners.

I have heard that Buell will replace the tanks with bubbled letters, but is this true?? I know I am asking a lot as I am the third owner..but hey a fixed tank for free sound almost too good to be true. Any one have any suggestions. I was planning on just getting some new oversized stickers, but the Buell logo underneither is so bad, I doubt the new one would stick at all on it.

Thanks for the help

hey Jay...call Buell customer service and give them your vin....I was a second owner of an S1 and they replaced race muff that cracked with no questions asked after I got the run around from my local dealer. They seem to really care about owners even if you bought the bike used.

I've been in touch with Buell Customer Service USA direct and they were very helpful and told me exactly what I had to do to get a replacement. I phoned my local dealer over in the UK and they said put it all in writing and they would get in touch with Buell UK. Months later I phone up my local dealer who tell me that I have to get in touch with Buell UK. I am not getting anywhere fast here.
Rapidly getting p*ssed off...............

If you guys can't it taken care of, I make vinyl graphics. I have the proper Buell font and can make it any size. I have sold many to fellow Buell people for the same reason. The graphics i make are not like the almost 3-D plasic coated letters on my 2002 M2 but they are just kick ass stickers in your choice of many colors, even mettalics, nuclear blue, and carbon fiber. $10 for a pair. To see an example of my work and a decal click this link.

It is the best material available and is continously outdoor weatherproof for a minimum of 5 years (some of my films have an 8 year rating) E-mail me with any questions to: sweetdaddydelicious@hotmail.com

Road_Thing: They can be....sometimes. A guy I made them for at the local dealer clearcoated them and they came out fine. I would assume that some materials may attack the vinyl if laid too heavy. Never lay a heavy coat first. The trick would be to first test it on an extra piece (which would be no problem to provide to you) and go about it the same way you do when any thing might be incompatible but you want to make it work: Start by spraying a few very light mist coats untill you have something to tack to, then spray a couple medium coats to easily cover it before laying on a heavy coat or two for wetsanding to that glass like finish we all love.

Doh- guess I'm going to add to this. First off why do you want to clear them? The vinyl is made for outdoor exposure and contains it's own UV protectant. (I have my M2 striped in it and my cars done in body graphics as well) It is also very glossy (unless you choose the hella cool matte black) If you want custom paint then do custom paint. Instead of cutting you vinyl decals, I will cut you the reverse in paint mask. Then you can lay this down, paint the Buell logo, peel off the mask, clear the tank, and not have to worry about clear coating the vinyl. I'm such a genious, why didn't I think of this earlier and respond with this the first time. If you do choose to clear coat the vinyl though, first make sure you clean it well (rubbing alcohol) and look for a clear containing MIK and MEK. This will insure excellent adhesion. Just keep in mind that there is really no need for it, it holds up fine to the elements and this kind of defeats the purpose of vinyl.

Thanks, daddy- the reason I ask is, I'm doing a project that's ultimately going to wind up with a new paint job, and I was thinking I might want to duplicate the stock decals. Then again, with the right mask, I might do something a little more, uh, conspicuous...

Sweetdaddyd,

Got anything you think might spice up my Battle Blue Firebolt? Maybe something that would fit along the sides of the front fairing (thinking between the headlights and turn signals) or on the frame itself?

Darthane: I got about two thousand things. Send some pics of it to my home address, chu@tdi.net from angles that will allow me to overlay something on it. Also give me some measurments to go off of. Try to keep the file size small. Give me an idea what you are thinking about (stripes, splat, splash, rip, tribal, text, etc) and a color or two and I'll see what I can come up with. Hmmm what color would look good on battle blue? Carbon fiber? matte black? metallic silver? Usually I charge an art deposit because I've spent hours of my time designing stuff in the past and then never hear from the guy again. But if you send me the pics and I get some free time I can see what I can come up with for a design or two and we can go from there.

Awesome. I'll have some pics from various angles and measurements and such for you tomorrow. I can probably crush each picture to about 50k, and then zip them all up. We'll see. You are the MAN!
