with due apologies to the author (who shall remain anony for now since he doesn't know it's Erik, not Eric), i just read the following in Storm Fronts and HAD to share. : )

--------------------------------------------

I, too sat on the Ulysses today.

DARN YOU TO HECK, ERIC BUELL!

I have a month and a half old 1200C with a couple thousand dollars of add-ons to bring it up to do long distance 2-ups and bags for trips. And now I am poor.

Today I got lust in my heart for that Ulysses. They are selling it for MSRP and told me I could have it if I signed right then. I came sooo close to signing, but I would have taken a big loss on the 1200C, had to come up with another $4,000 or so, and probably would have lost my wife, child, and house as she would have thrown me out!

(I did try to convince her just now, but no dice. Even with that great back seat.)

The Ulysses is awesome! I couldn't flat-foot it and get both heels on the ground at once, but if I was wearing my riding boots I could have. It has everything I wanted in a Buell and could not get. I sat on it 3 or 4 times. It is nice and upright. Very comfy. Easy controls. The clutch was like butter, and on and on......

I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it.

Darn you Eric. If you had to build my ideal bike, why couldn't you have announced it 2 weeks earlier? Now you have ruined my life for a while.

Wife, daughter, home? or Ulysses? Aaaaaaargh!

Jerry,
I hear you dude. I just test drove one tonight, would have taken a beating on the trade in also. (Anyone want to buy a 2000 X1 with all the updates and cool paint?) I'm 6'2" so the height wasn't an issue and it is narrower at the waist than my X1 and the pegs are in a much better position for long rides. My initial impression is this is one competent bike. It is really easy to ride at low rpms I did some parking lot figure eights to get a feel for it, before getting on the highway. The transmission is notable in that you don't notice it. Clutch effort is light, shift effort is light. I kept speeding without intending to. 90 shows up real quick if you're not paying attention. The suspension was tautly plush, it just soaked up the bumps and made them disappear yet you could still tell what the tires were doing. The sales guys at St Croix H-D Buell were pretty excited about the bike and have ordered hard bags and a low seat so people can see the bike decked out. I want one too.

I'm not *quite* there with my own lust for the Ulysses, but that's mostly because I'm purposely avoiding reading too much about it. When I first saw the Ulysses I thought, "wow that's cool . . . but I'm not in the market for an adventure-tourer." After reading some of the press stuff my tune has changed. Now I'm thinking I could really use a bike like the 12X.

Buell has once again built the bike I didn't know I wanted.
