Scenerio: Your riding down the freeway about 75-80mph. When eight sport bikes pass you at 130 to 150mph. Next thing you see in your mirror is two Cops, red lights a flashing. You move to the shoulder not wanting to be in the way of the pursuit. One car slides up behind you and two cops come out of the car with guns drawn..... Next thing you know you are in Jail facing Felong evading charges.

This is a true story. My buddy is in big trouble. California has a mandatory six month term. Great guy with no tickets or criminal recor until now.

If he's got a clean record chances are he can fight it. If anything a good attorney can turn that around based on his testimony alone. Such a shame that jerks being jackasses get others in the trouble "THEY" should have been in. Best thing he can do is keep denying it. Let us know how it turns out.

My words would be, don't you think if I was evading you, I'd have continued? Why would I stop? I pulled over being an honest law abiding citizen, and now you're trying to charge me with something I didn't do? I'd like my free phone call.

Get a good lawyer. I would argue that unless the cops in car camera can show your where part of the group your where just a lonewolf out for a ride. Also if he is on a popular bike your an argue about how they all look alike.

The attorney can subpoena the tapes from the police cruisers' cameras and get it cleared up...but he needs to get on the ball before they disappear.

Got stopped for the same thing in the late 90's on the Ortega heading up to the Lookout compliments of Dan Guerney and his enterage testing out his newest version of his recumbent motorcycle. Crap, I was passed at high speed on both sides within my lane by at least 10 bikes without any warning.

Two miles down the road, I get pulled over by the CHP and the guy starts in on me and I barked back with the details of my experience. He started to threaten with the handcuffs and I repeated my story but in a more civilized tone and proceded to explain the situation again. Funny how not yelling gets more attention, eh?

I skated on the entire deal and compliments of Motorola, Mr. Guerney, et al, received a nice escort back down the Ortega. No tickets or anything like that, just good old fashioned police harassment. LMAO

Then, this wasn't the first time Danny Boy and his buds got themselves in deep yogurt on the Ortega. On one occurance a CHP officer flipped his Mustang and was flown to the hospital in critical condition while in pursuit of Danny Boy and company. Yeah, they found all of them hiding in a relatives back yard, hot bikes and all, when a neighbor called in to report the strange occurance. The sad news is they couldn't do anything about it. DG +1, CHP -1 plus car.

Yep, tis guys like this that get us all the negative attention and double/triple fine zones. Moral of the story...If you feel the need for that much speed, take it to the track.

Just got out of court this morning myself.

76 in a 45. 20 over is a mandatory court appearance, 15 over is cosidered reckless.

Walked out on probation with monitoring fee of $100 and a defensive driving course required ($30). Keep my nose clean(6 months) and the ins co will not know about it and still have a clean record.

I was in a remotely similar situation a couple of years ago. Being very polite got me off without a ticket.

I, very politely, almost nerdily, kept insisting something couldn't be right (note, I never said the LEO made a mistake) and kept repeating that my speedo said 68 (in a 70). Officer offered to show me the radar gun with a 68 and a 78 mph readout. I think it finally dawned on him that the 78 was the car that passed me. In fairness, he was far enough away in the other lane that he had to make a snap decision as to who was going how fast and he chose the wrong guy. I was so nerdily nice that he finally whined "Look, I'm not giving you a ticket. Will you just leave?"

He didn't have to tell me twice.

Too late for this to help with your friend. At this point he has to have his attorney save him. Tell him good luck from me.

WEll, here in VaBch, we get HARASSED. I know its like this in a lot of places....but come on now..

Getting pulled over for nothing?

I have been puled over counltess times, with the comment, "You KNOW you need a muffler on that THING, Right?"

I camly step back a few feet, and ask the officer to step back, and say, yes, its right there.

Where?

On the bottom...

"Huh, well, does it meet teh noise specs for VA?"

Yadda, yadda....

On the other hand, I got puled in Mass, while riding up 202 to meet up with Signguy, and NateXL, something like 14 over. Yes sir no sir etc...

I gave him my liscence, Military ID, adn reg.

He promptly handed it back to me going on about not giving an active duty person on leave a ticket..

Then kept me on teh side of the road for about 45 minutes asking how I like my Buell, vice other bikes, asked to sit on it etc....He told me alittle later he was looking to get into a Buell, or a Ducati...

BTW, he was in his 50's. I will laughabout that one for a while, though I guess you ahd to be there...

In other words, it can work both ways....though that is the ONE good experience I have had being pulled over, it is possible...every other time hasa been a hassle...

Worthless post....probably...but hey, its my 2 pennies....

Don' know if I get cut any more slack for it, but I run a WI Vet plate on my bike. I have't been pulled over yet.

Not long ago this summer I was doing 80 in a 55 in my Jeep. As I rounded the corner I saw the cop and felt my heart sink. He pulled out behind me and then pulled over the red sports car on my right. I felt bad for the guy because as we were going through the corner I was passing him. I guess the cop thought my Yellow Wrangler wasn't much of a speed demon.

I'm 56 and the last cop who stopped me looked about 17. "Sir" he said in a voice that I swear cracked like a teenager, "do you know why I stopped you sir?" "Well, son" says I in my most patronly voice, "I might have been a tad late coming through that yellow light". He agreed and warned me that if I hadn't a fessed up, he might have given me a ticket. Maybe I should get some AARP plates on my bike?

Two Brothers turboed a ZX9 and left it with Kawi for some photo shoots when I worked there in the late 90's. This guy in the shop took it home and got busted in Huntington Beach doing 130 in a 35. He explained that it was a magazine bike and he worked at Kawi and the cool California cop let him off. (The same guy put a ZRX1200 engine in a chopper frame last year)

Another buddy was in the US for two weeks after moving from New Zealand (he also works at Kawi) and got busted on Lincoln near LAX doing 160 in a 35 on a 750 Kawi turbo. He got thrown in LA County Jail and no one could understand his Kiwi accent. Luckily he is built like a friggin' tank due to his Mauri genes so no one screwed with him.

Back in 93 I got nailed "for speeds in excess of 150mph". It was not pretty, cheap or very smart. It was also not a misdemeanor. The officer was kind enough to claim he was chasing me for several miles when in reality he did not even turn on his lights until he was right behind me. I pulled over as soon as he turned on his lights but it made no difference as he was a tremendous . 90 days house arrest (good lawyer) and no more owning firearms or voteing. Cant get me to ever squeeze more than about 90mph out of my bike when not on a race track anymore.

Think twice about going over a hundred as it could possibly affect the rest of your life.

Lucky for me I work for myself so other than not getting to vote anymore it has had zero affect on my life. If I had to work for other that might be a different story.......

"..pushing the mid 60's and that ain't MPH..."

Oh Yeah? Wanna race? I was born on the last day of the Battle of Midway, my second birthday was D-Day.

Yesterday I took a ride on a B-17G named Sentimental Journey, I was about two years older than the airplane and I suspect the pilots were about the same age.

No matter what age you are, it is better than the alternative. My Grandfather was 89, standing on his feet, and still had most of his hair when his heart stopped. I sure hope I have his luck!

....that vet plate. it's a swell touch and all, but think really hard, here.
when you were in, were you surrounded strictly by upstanding, patriotic folks whose sole initiative for serving was to defend america?
do you remember a lot of a*sholes in your barracks...guys who were serving in order to avoid the joint, or guys who couldn't hold down a job out in the world, so they decided to take a ride on uncle sam and give mom and dad a break?
welllllll......
they often fly those kinds of plates, too, in many cases, and I know
many
cops who served in the military
who are more-than-aware of this fact, as well.
sometimes, just keeping a copy of your green or pink card on top of your license, so the officer sees it when you hand him your license, will go a much longer way than telling the world you're a vet on your license plate.
as a vet, myself...
i've just found the subtle approach to work far better.

not much to tell. I don't really ride like an a*shole, and when i am pulled over, i'm a gentleman, as i am pretty much all of the time.
i say "sir" or "ma'm", according to the situation, and I remember to respect the uniform, if not neccessarily the man/woman donning it.
I respect police work as a dangerous activity, and one of service to the public.
i have found that folks generally give the resepect they receive.....er........outside of the internet, as evidenced by my above-quoted new stalker.
also, deep-down, i think all cops secretly want to be 1%ers, anyway....so they tend to be nice to us.

That’s a terribly negative attitude about folks serving in the military, negative no matter who you might be talking about. Sure they are a-holes everywhere, but I believe most people are good decent people and the ones you’re describing are in the minority.

I know Koz and he’s a good intelligent person and you trying to advise him to not announce he’s a vet to the world and take a more subtle approach because some in the military supposedly are as you describe them is offensive in my opinion.

Don’t let others make you ashamed of who and what you are, whatever I do I’m going to do it outright proudly !! Just because subtle works for you doesn’t mean it’s the best or right way for everyone !!

LOL 1% er's. Tramp dont you know that the Police are the biggest gang in the world? Just kidding actually have more fun with 1%er's than any other group of people as they have nothing to prove and are just themselves. As for speed demon up top of the post... If CHP there have dash cams which I believe they do and are activated when overheads are activated then they may be able to determine that the bike in question wasn't in the particular group. Otherwise I think he's FUBAR. keep me posted on this one..sounds interesting

(hoo-boy, cjxb- your shaky dialectics are becoming tedious at best. not only did i not say that the a*sholes in the service are any majority at all, but as a vet, myself, i'm certainly in a far better position to make that assessment than you are)

I know Koz and he’s a good intelligent person and you trying to advise him to not announce he’s a vet to the world and take a more subtle approach because some in the military supposedly are as you describe them is offensive in my opinion.
(not sure what you're trying to say, but i didn't deride koz in any way whatsoever. actually, i'm sure koz is painfully aware of the support-rate buffs that i'm referring to.
nowhere did i disresepct koz. if you're looking to drum up some "peeps" for your manipulative blather, don't let me stop you. ignorance, much like strength, is found in numbers. just look at the revenue that pro-wrestling and monster trucks generate.
)

(cjxb- the stated purpose, by salience of this thread, for the plate, was to help in avoiding being pulled over, or, at worse, cited.
in this context, keeping germaine with the post, i stated that keeping one's miltary past on the DL, and, instead, producing DOD creds when asked to produce a license, will be far more effective.

ummm... CJ- how long do i have to wait this angrly campaign out, before you either

or
B. realize that "days of our lives" is on, and step away from the computer for awhile?

hammer- i've met that guy, but only a couple times. back when he was still in oakland. nice man.
that's nice waht you said about those fellas. not sure if you've met the crew in your town, but the big guy is a gentleman, and a scratch golfer, to boot. he is one of the most honest and straightforward folks i know. you'll find him to be an engaging, excellent human being

this past weekend, i was at a fundraising event for a group who had a brother go down, a few weeks ago. they sold t-shirts with his name on them, had innumerable kegs tapped, and did doorprizes, etc.
guys from associated groups worked various jobs, members of the various groups, wearing their logos joked around, busted chops, etc., and had younger members assigned to the gates, whereupon new bikes, etc., pulling up, were scrutinized, and door $ was collected.
all in all, a great time was had by all, and a lot of money was raised for the wounded brother.
the group throwing the bash was the town of chester(ny) police department, assisted by a bunch of other PDs.
i was the lone representative of crime present, representin'....
great seeing the S2 rat parked next to all the police specials and road kings.
